Problems with O2 - Can someone settle an argument?
I'm in the UK using an iPhone 4 on O2 PAYG.
Since last week, I have had NO service from O2. A number of phone calls to O2 (8 intotal so far), indicated that there was a issue with the transmitter in my local area. This was told to me by 3 differant O2 operators on 3 seperate occasions. However, the other times I was told it could be an issue either my micro-sim card or the handset was faulty. On the request of O2, I have visted another postcoded area. The iP4 was working perfectly, with no problems with the service what-so-ever. Yet in my postcaoded area, the fault continued with "NO SERVICE". Again, O2 Customer Services told me it's either a sim problem or handset problem. I went a distance and visited a O2 store in another postcoded area. The iP4 was working perfectly, no faults, full service from O2. Thankfully with the abilitity to take screen grabs on the iP4, I showed the store the problems I was having. They said it most certainly was NOT a handset fault, but either one of two things - service in area or sim card. I had another sim, and everything was switched over to the new sim card.
AGAIN, they problem is still there. And again I need to contact O2. It has to be a transmitter fault in my area, even though O2 state that their computors show no issues. But when I speak with them today they will now doubtly say it's a handset fault.
I would like to ask . . . . Could it be a handset fault?
I feel it is not as I have no issues with the handset, just the O2 service which is the only thing that is NOT working. Obviously, as you can understand, I need to have some ammo to fire back at O2 if they try and blame the handset as I see that O2 are not doing anything to rectify the problem.
Also, my girlfriend who is also using a iP4 on the O2 service is having similar problems with "NO SERVICE" in our area, but working perfectly fine in other postcoded areas.
Sorry for the long winded posting.

If it was me I would try the sim in another O2 phone or unlocked one (not an I phone) in the area where you don't get a signal.
That way if it got a signal it would rule out the transmitter and the sim card but would point towards the iphones not being receptive enough to get a signal.
Also if the other phones recieved no signal it would point towards the transmitter fault.
Do you have any spare phones you could try or any mates with O2 or unlocked phones ???It's not just about the money0 -
nothing here on status.o2.co.uk go to "status DOT o2 DOT co dot uk"
do you know any other o2 users, neybours, friends etc, to come to you and try their phones. what part of wm are you? Reddi here. o2 ok there lol.0 -

I have a 3GS and Im having hte same problem, Its happening a lot more regularly now.
I have my phone on my desk in front of me, shows full 3g signal but my husband emails me to say that he cant get through
Minutes later the signal drops completely and I get the no service message
Turn flight mode on / off, turn phone on off eventually signal comes back
I phone O2 no problems in the area, or in any area near me
its not just happening at work - I get the same problem when Im driving home from work (I ring my mum on my way home (hands free of course)), mum says she has tried ringing about 8 times and goes straight to voicemail even though Phone says it has full signal and doesnt even ring
Is it my phone too? Or is it O2 playing silly wotsits0 -
My girlfriend who is also on O2 and with a iP4 also has similar problems, but not as bad a me. This is in our postcoded area where we think the fault is. Yet, like me, when she gets to work (in another postcoded area) her phone is working perfectly and healthy with O2.
I have spoken with O2 and they are going to contact Apple to see if any work has been done with the transmitter in the area. O2 should contact me back within the next 24 hours.
It just seems odd that two phones in the same postcoded area should start having O2 service issues at the exact same time.

Had O2 ring back earlier afternoon. Got me to do a few tests with phone then said "Hmmm, sounds like you have a 3G issue. We'll look into it and contact you back with OUR findings". . . Still waiting.0

If this is O2, which I'm positive it is, it's not doing me any favours as I can not use the phone as a phone at home due to this problem. The longer O2 mess about and fob me off with lame excuses, the more I am being forced to go to another network provider.
However, I have £80 on my sim with O2 which I will lose if I do ditch O2.0 -
Day 10 of no service from O2. I am still non the wiser as to what they are doing other than the so-called techie from O2 yesterday saying they were contacting a engineer to look into it and to get back to me with their findings.0
