Wikipedia is your friend: "The once-held view that blue eye color is a simple recessive trait has been shown to be incorrect. The genetics of eye color are so complex that almost any parent-child combination of eye colors can occur..."

I think you're right about the blondes though, IIRC true blondes are dying out as it needs two blondes to make a blonde!

My OH is very pale, blonde with bright blue eyes. Whereas I am darker skinned (still classed as white British) dark brown hair and deep brown eyes. My father was blonde with blue eyes and very pale skin so I know somewhere there are these genes in me too.

My sons were pale with lovely blonde hair so we will see what Mini_cub gets. Having looked into my and OH genes there is roughly a 50/50 split of whether she will be blue or brown, blonde or brunette.

It is exciting wondering what she will have. :D

Waw, i like this subject, we keep asking ourselves how this baby will be !... You see, i am medium olive skin, black eyes and black hair, half native american indian half spanish, 5 ft 3. My oh is pale blue eyes, dark hair, very white ( he was blonde as a baby) 6ft, our DD was born with wavy black hair, black eyes and olive skin. Now she is 5, she has brown hair and hazel eyes, light olive skin and it is really tall.
My in laws are/were so very happy when she was born, they did not want her to look like the other grandchildren ( blue eyed, blond hair )they really wanted her to look like me to add something to the family.
i so wanted my OH eyes color and my SIL was so jealous that kept saying during my entire pregnancy that there was no way she was going to be any different than me, she was going to be dark, as she put it. Little matter to her, that i told her my cousin, darker than me and her blonde hsband just had a blond haired baby.

He* she called my daughter a HE even tho the scan showed it was a little girl, she made me so annoyed. She knew the grandparents, my oh and my family wanted a little girl.

thanks that def helps.:) i will go with whatever i have. i am sure they will have some sort of notes as i met the MW at the same hospital. weird! i will take my passport just in case. oh and money too. nothing was said about that either!lol. good old Croydon hospital. :)

    Hey Rups,

At Croydon they keep hold of your notes until you go in for the scan, at which point they have them behind the reception desk and will give them back to you when you check in for your appointment. My scan was at 1ish, I think, and I was seen quite quickly. I didn't have the NT screening done at Croydon, I had it at my earlier appointment at King's, but I suspect it's the same procedure - they'll take some blood and then do some measurements of the baby on the scan (if the baby cooperates, mine kept wriggling about - they looked positively relieved when I told them at Croydon I wouldn't be having the testing done!). My result came back as 1 in 17500 - so very low risk, that's how it is measured usually (i.e. 1 in x).

When you're done they'll book you in for your next scan at 20 weeks, and give you some pictures - there's a donation box on the wall if you want to give them anything for the pics. You'll then get to take your green notes home with you, it'll have the results of your blood tests from your booking in appointment in it as well.

    HTH :)

I just had my 16wk MW appointment and heard the baby's heartbeat. Yay!

ahh i do hope our babies get his amazing blue eyes. they are beautiful compared to my boring dark brown eyes. would be good to see a combination of like olive skin with blue eyes? The only positive he has said is he is scared of us having daughters, as he would have to protect them from every man. haha...
so many people have said though the blonde and blue eyes genes are recessive though...:(

Blue is recessive. And I'm guessing that you're unlikely to have the recessive blue gene. Chances are your baby won't have blue eyes. :(

Check out the site below. Get a picture of your OH and yourself, upload them, follow the instructions and hey presto! you get a picture of what your baby will look like. It's fab!

wow morocha your DD def sounds very cute. :) and with your roots, you never know for sure. :) i would like for sure for our babies to be a mixed complexion of the two of us. :) so they dont burn when in the sun as poor hubby just burns and turns red. :(

in my Indian culture, its quite sad as even though it happened years ago, it still happens. the eldery ladies or some families always wish that everyone has a biy first. its so sad. when my SIL was pregnant, people would look at her and say bet you are having a son. she has 2 lovely gorgeous girls. seriousely these cultural things make me so angry at times. if i get that i will shout at them!

My very very dark skinned cousin just had a baby with blue eyes, his GF has green eyes. My cousins dad is very dark with black eyes, his mum has got light brown eyes and white skin. So i kinda thing that there is still a little chance to have a child with light eyes even if both parents have dark eyes if there is one grandparent with that eye color.
My oh backgrond is all white, blue eyed people, my background is my dads family is dark but my mums family is dark or white, they are mixed.
