Usually walby, you have the booking in appointment (mine was at the drs with midwife) then you are sent the appointment for your scan, which from what you have written sounds like how yours will work. After the dating scan you then see another midwife (on the same day at the hospital) who takes some further information. Every area does things differently but I think most places do a booking in appointment between 8-10 weeks then a scan between 11-14 weeks

- how do you feel? Any different? Any symptoms?
I'm 27 weeks now and pregnancy has never really felt how I'd imagined it would.
Try not to tie yourself in knots obsessing about symptoms (damn near impossible I know) as you will find you get yourself very stressed worrying. Everybody and every pregnancy is different. With my second pregnancy (which ended in a mmc at 13 weeks, the first one ended at around 6 weeks so didn't have time to notice any symptoms) I had more symptoms than with this one. I've been lucky in that I've never had MS, but I have had nausea. The nausea was worse in the pregnancy that I mc'd than this one. The only other symptom I had really was extreme tiredness and I was ready for bed between 7 and 8 most evenings.
Like I said every pregnancy is different some people get every symptom going, some get none. The strength of the symptoms is no indication of how successful the pregnancy will be but it is hard not to worry if you have no/little symptoms and others have lots.
- are you doing anything differently in terms of lifestyle/work now you're pg?
It depends on the type of job you have. Some jobs (ones maybe that involve working with chemicals, heavy lifting or even with small children) may prefer you to tell earlier as some health and safety adjustments may need to be made. Having said that you don't have to tell work until about 20 weeks if you don't want to, it's totally up to you. If you were exercising before hand then there is no reason to give it up, some adjusts may need to be made. I know that some classes, like Zumba for example won't allow pregnant women to take part due to the nature of the movements. Your GP/midwife would be able to advise you. I think the one thing they do say is don't suddenly take up a whole new fitness regime when you become pregnant. The only exercise I really do now is walking and swimming.
- have you told anyone yet?
We told family and close friends after the dating scan, but didn't make any big announcement. Again it's a personally choice.
- what happens at the booking appointment?
Lots of questions regarding medical history of you, your partner and your immediate family. Some bloods taken too.
- have you started to show yet?
I started to show about 12/13 weeks, but looking back at photos I looked more frumpy than pregnant.

Morning! See, told you I didn't post a lot although I try and lurk every day. Actually - that makes me sound like a bit of a stalker!
Congrats Countrybum - I saw your annoucement on the TTC12+ board. I was so pleased for you.
Have 1 DS but this is my 4th pregnancy.
How do you feel? Any different? Any symptoms?
DH noticed I was much sleepier than normal before I got the BFP. Really sore nipples (feels like razor blades being drawn though them when DS has a feed), some cramping but the big one for me is pain round my pelvis. Doctor says it could be the start of PGP/SPD which I had the first time too. Wonderful! In fact the pelvic pain was one of my first symptoms, followed by slight nausea and tiredness!
When does MS generally start?
Really depends on the person. My sister in law had no sickness/nausea whatsoever, neither did my mum. I, on the other hand, had severe nausea with my DS from 6 weeks until he was born - little unlucky but never mind. That's very unusual though and I'm praying it doesn't happen this time. This time round i have been nauseous since about 9DPO (a fact i didn't mention as I thought QQ would waggle her finger at me! LOL!). And it's way worse this time. I have felt as sick as a dog constantly however, I have not actually been sick so am luckier than most (that's what i keep telling myself!).
Are you doing anything differently in terms of lifestyle/work now you're pg?
Being more careful when lifting things and trying to eat a wee bit healthier - failing miserably as I feel so bad so just making myself eat what I can!
Have you told anyone yet?
Just my immediate boss in work so that if anything were to happen then I wouldn't have to go into a big explanation! Due to past history we're not telling anyone until after the scan.
What happens at the booking appointment?
Wee bit different in Northern Ireland as we have the scan first to make sure everything is ok and then the booking in takes place straight after that. Women have to go in to see the midwife on their own for a few minutes first. This is so they can be asked about sensitive issues (domestic violence) first when they are alone. Then it's the usual bloods, questions and plenty of leaflets! You also see the doctor if needed. Care is handled between the hospital and the local community midwifes who I'll see at about 14 weeks all being well.
Have you started to show yet?
Not yet but there's plenty of time for that! With DS I was probably showing from about 15/16 weeks but no one noticed as they thought I was just putting on a bit of weight and avoiding going to weightwatchers. Was properly showing by 18 weeks so had to start telling people! Again everyone is different.
I think everyone sufferes from a wee bit of paranoia. Totally normal. i'm terrible for it. Got my scan/booking in date yesterday which has presented a small dilemma. DH is on a first aid course which finishes on that day. I think it's the day they do the test. So he's away to work to see if he can switch to a later course. I, of course, started to worry slightly as I had a lot of cramping (AF type) for several hours yesterday. I know I only had DS 2 years ago but don't remember about the cramping. Have told self I am not going to panic unless there is bleeding as I can do nothing anyway and it may be perfectly normal.
My word i do waffle! This would be one reason I don't post a lot! I talk a lot and usually it's a load of nonsense!
Hope everyone is doing ok and that you are feeling a bit less nauseous than I am!!0 -

Everybody feels like this hun - you will be a raving loony until the scan but it does get better xxx
Walby - Usually the scans are seperate to your booking appt. Some have had them the same day because their local health service has been a bit delayed:jBaby Boy born December 20120 -
hiya all. hope everyone is ok? back to work today but have a stinking headache.
Welcome countrybum and a huge congrats on your BFP!!:j I am just over 11 weeks and have had a missed mc before (in January this year), so am quite anxious about this pregnancy.
It was really helpful to see everyone's responses. i will try and be short with mine. hehe.
how do you feel?
Generally, very tired. I am suffering from headaches which i have been told are normal, and also very nauseous. Heartburn has just started for me, and wasnt pleasant, so went off home yesterday. Trying not to get too over the top happy yet until my scan is done, and this is partly due to the mc before.
Any different?
my symptoms are def different to ones before. i do welcome them, dont get me wrong, so i know that the baby is trying to say that all is ok? Am hating healthy food even though am trying. had started off with lots of carbs and that made me feel better, and now as DH is on a diet, i am trying to eat more healthily. yuck!
Any symptoms?
yep! from 6 weeks all started, in stages. my nausea started from the time i found out (at 5 weeks) and i still have that. My boobs are sore (bit this changes at times). I have put on weight and my clothes are now getting tighter (sitting here with a skirt on that used to be swing around my waist but now have had to undo the zip. hehe). Headaches, and fatigue.oh and now heartburn has started!
when does MS generally start?
mine started from week 5 onwards and i still have it. am not liking food or even water (i used to drink 2 litres everyday).I force myself now.
are you doing anything differently in terms of lifestyle/work now you're pg?
when i saw the GP to say i got my BFP, i was told to be VERY careful with what exercise i did, purely because i had also had a mc. so i used to do kung fu with DH so i had to stop. I also used the gym a lot and went for classes and i stopped as was told running was not good too. Was told when i have the energy (and i still dont have it) to just walk loads and swim, so when i can i walk. Have given up the gym for now. After 12 weeks and after the scan i will start swimming. so be careful about lifting etc too. no heave heavy housework.
have you told anyone yet?
we told our families last time and also my close friends last time. they were so supportive when i had my mc. this time we wanted to keep quiet about stuff, but still told my side (mum, and brothers) and DH's side. they were just happy for us, like they were last time. And ihave told a few close friends. we just felt it was ok as we would get nothing but support, if something did happen.
what happens at the booking appointment?
assuming this is the first midwife appointment, this was long and boring. hehe.. just wee sample, gave blood too and got my BP measured, height and weight. Then we filled out a LOOOOONG boring form about history etc etc. i asked a few quesitons about hair dyes and travelling on planes and headaches. Was told all ok. Then you get told if anything like bad bad cramps and bleeding, to go the early pregnancy unit, or A&E. things they have to say i guess so we know what to do, where to go.
have you started to show yet?
I have had a big belly anyway which i struggle to get rid of in the gym hehe, so at 6 weeks, with feeling bloaty and gassy, i was uncomfortable. i am showing now esp when i stand sideways. even my mil said i look bigger. :rotfl:my clothes are tight now so i need to go shopping but will do after the scan which is in 8 days time!! been counting from over 3 weeks ago. sigh.
Thats me done.
Anmarj thanks for your message. am better but with headache still, i will take paracetamol. have half a day off today which i took today so can go and get my stupid dress, and i dont want to stress in oxford street. only going to debenhams and thats it!! wish me luck. hehe sorry to hear about your mum. mums can be so silly at times. i rang mine the other day (she NEVER rings me) and i said i have started getting heart burn, and her reponse was ' what can i do?'/ grrr. i just hear it from one ear and out the next. hehe
ok will stop now. xxBecame Mrs H on the 1st of October 2011!!

- how do you feel? Any different? Any symptoms?
I fell pregnant straight after my last MC, and I assumed that AF was coming because I felt crampy for a couple of days. I felt generally a bit under the weather for a couple of weeks after I got my BFP, and at about 7 weeks the nausea kicked in. My boobs were incredibly sore from about 10dpo, and my nipples are still not big fans of being touched. I also got very tired in the evening.
- when does MS generally start?
Mine comes on at about 7 weeks. With my last pregnancy which was a MMC I was actually sick at around 9 weeks, with this one I'm now 16 weeks and although I had extreme all-day nausea from 7 weeks to 13 weeks, I wasn't actually sick. I still have days when I feel a bit queasy/unwell, but they're much fewer and further between.
- are you doing anything differently in terms of lifestyle/work now you're pg?
I'm drinking a lot lessSeriously though, not much has changed. I'm still more tired in the evenings so our mid-week evenings out are rarer, and by Friday I'm ready to go home and relax on the sofa after a week at work. I have to do evening meetings quite frequently as part of my job and they really take it out of me as it ends up being a 12/13 hour day but I see it as my body telling me what I need (sleep mainly). My job is mainly office based so I haven't had to change much about it.
- have you told anyone yet?
Yes, because of where we are in the pregnancy. We'd told a few people before 12 weeks - having had miscarriages before, I found the support of people who knew really useful so I wasn't so fussed about keeping it a deathly secret, especially as I think that DH struggled when I relied on him completely after the MCs as he needed space to grieve too. I think the rule I worked to was that if I would tell them if I miscarried then I'd tell them before it happened too.
- what happens at the booking appointment?
They ask you lots and lots and lots of questions, weigh you, take your blood and your blood pressure, and ask you to pee in a pot. It's just to start off your pregnancy notes, so they'll need things like contact details, family history for you and your OH, and details of any previous pregnancies.
- have you started to show yet?
I'm not sure. I think it looks like I've got a pot belly, DH thinks it looks bumpy because it's all at the front. My waist thickened quite quickly this time but it's probably because this was my third pregnancy in 7 months so it had been there quite recently. I was in stretchy leggings from about 8 weeks for comfort, my jeans wouldn't fit.
One thing I would say, and I will keep saying it, over and over, is that the majority of pregnancies are absolutely fine. You have a 3 in 4 chance of it all going well, and to be honest, if it's not going to go well then there is absolutely nothing you can do about it and that's not your fault either. Just by getting to the point where you have a BFP means you're past the first hurdle of a chemical pregnancy, so your risk of miscarriage is going down every day. Try and enjoy it and worry only when you have to.0 -
thanks sarara that also reassured me. like DH and my mum say, if somehting will happen, it will. aghh cant be bothered to worry. the nausea, fatigue and headaches keep me busy to worry anyway.Became Mrs H on the 1st of October 2011!!

Rups - glad to hear you are ok today.
Sa-ra-ra-ra; it's nice to hear the positive fact that 3/4 are ok and there's nothing you can do (bar the obvious drink and fags I suppose) I also like the idea that every day your risk reduces. Can't wait till that elusive 12 weeks though!
I'm going to see my grandparents and cousin who I'm quite close to this weekend and I know I'm going to find it really hard not to tell them. OH is really not keen on more people knowing and I'm going up on my own so it's not fair for me to tell them without him.
I'm with those ladies with the unsympathetic mother. After a day off yesterday my dad was all lovely today saying you must look after yourself etc. Mum's response "did you really need a day off and 3 pieces of toast for breakfast, is that not over the top at such an early stage"
Arghhhh - Mothers! Of couse, I will be a perfect loving and understanding mother! (frantically hunting for sarcastic smiley.....)0 -
i say that too about my mum, that i will not be like her, and more of a best friend to my kids as i cant even talk to my mum about stuff. when i told her the news, she could only say 'why couldnt you wait for a while, as you have had a mc?'. grrr. could be the fact that she gave me up for adoption when i was born so we dont have that bond!Became Mrs H on the 1st of October 2011!!

Rups are you talking about your birth mum? If she gave you up for adoption did you then re-establish links?:jBaby Boy born December 20120
