It is a nice idea, but I would feel guilty, and all the work would be piled up for me for when I come back to do in even shorter time. I wish there was an easy way.
Besides, I would be too embarrassed/ashamed/scared to get signed off.
I don't want to sound blunt, but what is more important, your baby or your work?
Don't be embarrassed about getting signed off, if you need to do it to look after you and your baby then do it.
If work doesn;t get done the sky will not fall in, no matter what your boss thinks. The day I had this revelation my life changed!
If you or your baby are not OK, your sky WILL fall in.
Please see your GP or at the very least tell your boss your work is affecting your health at the moment and you need to do less or you will go and get signed off.
Your boss' business is not your responsibility or your problem, it is his.
Look after yourself as a priority.

Thanks, skintchick. I know, this pregnancy is more important than anything for me. If not for the financial side, I would hand in my notice tomorrow. But, however little maternity pay is, we will need this money.
But then I am that sort of person, will do anything to please others (ok, not all - there are some people I won't lift a finger for). And I hate confrontation. I feel so guilty for taking ayeay off when I am not well, that I end up working at home even though I booked sick leave. The only time I have got signed of was when I had OHSS. I need to find a way to cope with the stress. There is likely to be more before I go off. My plan is to finish with Easter, I will be about 30-31 weeks, so it is 22 weeks to go, and I have 2 weeks of holiday in that time, so it is not that long left (what I keep telling myself). I have to say, this is the worst I felt at this work. I will get over it.Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
Why are you feeling let down? You are getting early scan, which not many get, and you will be seeing the health professional once a month, which I guess is similar, but instead of midwife you will see GP. I am 9 weeks, and I don't know when will I see a midwife or get NHS scan.
I think I didn't make myself clear - I don't get to see the midwife until I'm over 12 weeks, whereas if I stayed in my country I'd be having early scans and monthly appointments! This is why I feel disappointed.0 -
skintchick wrote: »Seeing the MW at 12 weeks does sound late, as your dating scan would usually be then, and if you are having the nuchal testing scan it must be done by 13 weeks plus a few days, so it would be worth trying to move your booking-in (the name of your first Mw appointment) forward a bit in order top ensure your scan is at the right time.
I did try to say it was too late and make and earlier appointment but the lady said that the first appointment should be between 8-12 weeks (not what my leaflet says!) and there is nothing I can do! My first scan will be in January, a week after the MW appointment.
I don't know if I need any medicines - it's my first pregnancy so I'm freaking out. Glad there's internet and forums to fall back on.0 -

It is very variable across different areas of the UK or even cross region, so one leaflet, won't reflect in what each area or hospital does.
If its at all reassuring, i saw my GP to say i was PG at 4weeks, I saw the midwife for my booking in at 9+4 weeks, and my first scan was at 13+1. To be honest, bean is sooo small at first, that there is very little they can say or do in the early days, so whilst the early weeks waiting for the appointments seem like they last FOREVER, your PG will pass quicker than you imagine, and by your final tri, you will be feeling like you are constantly going to appointments!
Maybe do what i did, and spend those first weeks getting a book or two, and doing some reading of your own, so you are more prepared and will understand more what they ask/tell you, and also ask your family about their medical histories, so you can answer the booking questions more easily?
I would recommend "what to expect when you are expecting" as a good coverall book.Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

Silly Moo, I'd say 12 weeks is too late for your booking appointment. i'd ring and try to get it brought forward if you can. I had mine at 11 weeks and it wasn't too bad as they had already booked my scan but if they don't book your scan till you've had your booking appointment then the scan date could be too late for having the downs screening.0
-
Most places if your booking is late, they will have booked your scan. It's what happened in my area, and the only downs screening they do is at 16 weeks with bloods, so having a later booking appointment isn't any disadvantage.
I know whenever I go to the hospital it is always SO busy, so I understand why it can take so long. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Feeling better today, since it is weekend and trying not to think about work. Went to Mamas & Papas and got a present for friends' coming baby - a beautiful dress, it was discounted to £21 and I had £10 voucher from Hipp registration with M&P website, so it only came up £11. Not getting anything for us - I promised not to buy anything till Christmas, when I'll be 15-16 weeks.
Then sorted some bits at home, like putting up the wall light and hanging up the weddin photos again, that where hidden under the desk usn the redecoration of the room. And finally I have attempted to do some ironing - still a lot left, but 2 hours wit the iron made a huge dent! I have still some duvet covers and couple of sheets and tablecloths, but I will get there! Need to do quite a bit f cleaning tomorrow as well, but really want to get in top of this. I love a clean and tidy house, but just hade doing the cleaning and tidying part! If only I could persuade OH to get a cleaner to at least clean the bathrooms, dust and hover. Oh, and clean the windows - they always look streaky, no matter what I do!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
Oh, and I got maternity exemption card today! Still no news from the midwife - hope something comes next week as i'll be 10 weeks already.Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0
