The 'What to Expect' book is excellent gin.
my mum bought it for me and I dipped in and out of it throughout my pregnancy. It's written in a very straightforward, non-preachy way.

Hi Ginvtz
Depends on the type of book you like, I loved 'The rough guide to Pregnancy' as it was a funny take on pregnancy but with proper info. If you just want straight info anything by Miriam Stoppard is pretty good.
Ladies i had my scan on Friday and baby was asleep but healthy. Got the chance to speak with consultant regarding the severe morning sickness and got good reassurance so if anyone else is prescribe meds and are worried to take them (as I was) it probaby worth calling up and having a chat with a midwife. I wish I had done it sooner!
Well, I'm off to the 12 to 24 week thread now. Good luck everyone and I hope all your bumps are happy and healthy!

Thanks. I will not be having a midwife appointment for quite a while, as I am still under the clinic care, and I will be getting week 7 and week 12 scans there (I am also taking part in a trial). So, I would like something to read sooner. 'what to expect' is on reserve from library - we need to wit for that a bit. But, if I like it - I will be buying it.
My OH is a book worm. We both love reading, and he reads a lot. When I mentioned getting a book to him, he just said as long as it is not by American author, as things are quite different there.Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -

Ooh and congratulations Ginvzt
A book I can recommend from first time round with DS was 'The Best Friends Guide to Pregnancy'. It's a fun read and holds no bars when it comes to answering the questions we all have but never want to ask!0 -
Congratulations Gin, really pleased for you and OH :j
Dental appointment was fine, no need to be a baby it didnt hurt
Popped home while I was in the village and had a letter from the Dr to say I am aneamic and need to pick up a prescription for Iron tablets, I am confused though as the Mother To Be vitamins I have been taking since April say they have 100% RDA of Iron?????0 -
Hey ladies
I've not been around over the last few days cos FIL was rushed into hospital in ambulance with heart problems and we had to do a mercy dash up to the Midlands. He's still there but doing well (apart from his terrible pessimistic attitude!) and should be home today I think.
On the subject of books, I absolutely hated What to Expect... as I found it patronising, American, and in places just plan inaccurate.
I also had the Rough Guide one, I didn;t like it that much but my friend loves it.snoopytweety wrote: »Hi, it came on Saturday, and amazingly after about 5 minutes if that we found it, was the most anazing experience ever and has really made me relax enough that now I cannot wait for our 12 week scan on Thursday - completely excited now.
And, I should just add, I am a very very plus size lady, and it still worked!!! Deffo recommend it! x
Are you sure you didn;t listen to your own heartbeat? It's very easy to do! Baby's HB shuld be twice the speed of yours, so if it was around 70 beats per minute then it was your own. I remember reading that lots of people listen to their own heartbeat by accident.
Obviously I hope you did find it! Hey guys, I'm 11 weeks today and relieved to have gotten this far, my appetite seems to have returned this weekend which is nice in a way but I do worry myself silly about this little one and so I did have a bit of a 'is this a disappearing symptom moment!
Looking forward to hearing all about your scan Lisa, how exciting! Mine's still 2 weeks away when I'll be 13 weeks, so I'm seeing it as two more weeks worry, DH is thankfully taking it all in his stride, I'm disappointed in myself that I'm so worked up about it all and wish I could enjoy it, but I'm a worrier and always have been, lets hope I start to mellow soon!
Edited to say welcome lovely new ladies! xx0
