I had my booking appointment on Thursday and I was given a pot to bring a sample when I saw the doctor the week before. When the midwife rang me to arrange the booking appointment she said she normally gets people to do a sample when they're there so I'd either take one, or be 'prepared' to give one when you're at the appointment!

I'm 9 weeks tomorrow, so we're pretty much due date buddies :D

My midwife also gave me a sample pot for my next appointment in August, as you have to take one every time apparently.

    Morning Ladies,

    Hope you are all well?

I've woken up this morning and feel terrible, sick to my stomach and just feel really tired - not sure how I will get through the day! I have a super busy week as well!

I'm going to be 6 weeks on Thursday, I have my booking in appointment next Thursday when I will be 7 weeks, my surgery don't let you see a Doctor, just straight to the midwife.

What can I expect when I see the midwife? Blood tests? Lots of questions? Do you get examined?

Sorry for the list of questions, I'd like to know what to expect though!

    Have a great day all!

Morning Janine bless you hope you manage to find some energy and feel better soon for what its worth I feel equally rubbish :o

From memory of a booking in appt my local midwife asks lots of questions yes about family history etc so try and get as much before hand as you can.

They do take bloods and will want a nice specimen of urine. They usually do have a feel of your tummy and some will try and hear the heartbeat but this is dependant on how far advanced the prgnancy is as its not always easy to hear at the first appt and I think some people naturally panic if they can't hear it.

That was my exp. of it anyhow the appt is quite extended and it feels like they are there for an age also discuss if you know where you would like to give birth some people will have an answer for that and others will not have made their minds up yet

    HTH xx

    Morning everyone,

Sorry for the girlies having sickness. I'm still escaping it so far, but still get nausea quite a bit. MW booking in appointment at lunch time today, so quite looking forward to it even though I know it's just a boring paper excercise :)

Hope everyone has a good day.... :)

Hey twigpig how did the appt go ? Hope you're well I've got mine on Thursday this week :)

    xx

No examination at mine, although she did take my blood pressure, bloods, and a urine sample. She asks lots of questions and fills in your paperwork which is then left with you to take to all your future appointments. The MW we has yesterday was lovely. Made us feel at ease. We had ours as a home visit, as the appointments at the surgery were all booked up until we'd be 11-12 weeks.

Private scan tomorrow after work. It's all becoming quite real :rotfl:

How exciting having a scan tomorrow - can't wait for mine! At the moment it doesn't feel real to me, I've done 4 tests, haven't had my period, feel sick and exhausted, but it still doesn't feel like I'm pregnant! I'm hoping seeing the midwife will make it more real!

It definitely made it seem more real for us. The weirdest thing about pregnancy is that at no point has anyone with any sort of qualification (i.e doctor etc) actually said to us "yes, you ARE pregnant". I find it quite strange......
