Welcome flippityflop and huge congratulations on your double of good news! :D

Enjoying having a day off, keep telling myself to go to a doctor as I haven't even seen one yet let alone booked any scans or anything :| I'd have to go and register with a new doctor and everything first though and tbh it all seems like such a big hassle. I know this is the totally wrong attitude to have but I can't help it, I'm so unmotivated with anything to do with little bean yet :( still doesn't seem real, despite all the symptoms.

Arranged a shopping trip with my mam on Friday to look for a dress for the family wedding I'm going to on Saturday, seems like a perfect time to tell her the news as I'm going to have to make up loads of excuses for not drinking etc anyway. Hope she takes it better than OHs mam did, but she's always gone on about wanting grandkids so hopefully she'll be excited :)
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important

claire bear hun, I was in the same boat as you, but registering is just a couple of forms and then seeing the nurse, its fine and painless. I think when you have things booked it will all seem real. And sometimes the scans have to be booked weeks in advance as they are always really busy, hence why mine is so late at 13+1. I would go and see what you need to do, really will make things seem like they are moving a long quicker for you.

Thanks for the welcome you guys! I didn't think the OH would EVER propose - we'd decided to get on with babies as I'm 31 and my family has a history or early menopause. I was more shocked about the proposal!!

Boring question, but do you know where in these forums I can find out information about SMP? In particular I'm looking for what the gross weekly sum will be after tax and NI would be so me and OH can plan for when Spud arrives. x

ooh flippity not sure on that one, will be on the directgov website, i think you get 90% of your pay for 9 weeks then for 33 weeks its about £125pw SMP i dont think they can tax it can they as it falls beneath the threshold? This is just from snippets of information Ive seen, sorry I cant be more help.

Thanks missymoo. I will keep looking, I have a feeling you get tax and NI taken off the SMP if you are already in employment, but not if you are unemployed and get the maternity allowance. Very confusing!

hey flippity have just done some more research it says here http://www.babyandbump.com/pregnancy-second-trimester/100471-tax-smp-2.html that you only pay tax as you would on your normal wages, this is slightly outdated though, now you will pay tax if you earn anything over £8000 which is what it changed to in april, so you wont pay much, and you are right if you are on maternity allowance you dont pay any tax or ni regardless.
  • Hello everyone

I'm new here, and 6 weeks pregnant today. All a bit of a shock, unplanned, but not unwanted! Considering I have PCOS its an even bigger shock as I thought it might not even be possible.

We're over the moon, especially as when I walked out of the bathroom holding the (2nd!) positive test he was down on one knee with a ring in his hand asking me to marry him! Talk about a life changing evening. We're got it all in the wrong order but we're very happy.

I have my first midwife appointment on 31 May - going to be a long 3 weeks!!

    FF

awwww welcome! You made me cry!!! :) well done to your OH!!!
