Argh...had a whole post typed out and then the Internet gods zapped it!
re acupuncture: It's absolutely safe while pregnant. I'd definitely recommend seeking someone who's treated pg women before though, as there are some points that you don't use during pregnancy. Acu is one of the things that enabled me to conceive in the first place, so I can't recommend it enough. I haven't had too much trouble with MS, so I haven't had treatment. My practitioner though did help with the tiredness. I'm still tired, but it was better (could do with one nap instead of sleeping like 18 hours a day!).
On the nuchal, I think it's really luck of the draw with your sonographer. Ours was very good and took a while (baby was all over the place), explaining that you have a certain position in the shot, including the nasal bone/cartilage. We had waffled back and forth about the test, as I was not at all convinced that I would consent to an amnio/CVS. However, my age (40..eek!) put me at a high risk anyway, 1/100, so we thought that we'd give it a go. Combined bloods/NT/RA came back and gave me a risk estimate of something like 1 in 5300, so very glad we went through with it.
Just a mention too, wrt to low blood sugar. If you're feel that this is what's causing the problem, you definitely *DO* want to eat something sweet. Juice is the best, as it's absorbed into your system very quickly, but any sort of sucrose-laden food (or soda) would help. After a bit, then yes, you want to eat something protein/starch, but the sugar rush is really important. One of my sisters struggles with hypoglycemia, and I've run across it often at work. It's important to recognize the symptoms, as it can be more troublesome if left unchecked...you may pass out or become really agitated, or sometimes people go a little out of their gourd (temporarily). There's a bit of information about it here: http://www.uihealthcare.com/topics/diabetes/hypoglycemia.html. The best prevention is to try and eat little and often, which is often the best during MS days anyway. Make sure you carry something with you in your bag!Pick battles big enough to matter, small enough to win. - Jonathan Kozol0 -
Jen I have problems with low blood pressure and anemia and I was told by my doctor not to do that, but then it did get really bad and (as some people already know) I was hospitalized and given 4 pints of blood
The advice she gave me was more like pigpens, although I'll admit that immediate sugar rush is useful if you feel like you're about to pass out on the bus.
That could be because I have a strong family diabetes history though and they worry about me developing type 2.Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

sugar rush makes you produce too much insulin which causes a massive slump then you get even lower blood sugar, nausea and a headache to boot! If I do that I feel unwell for about 3 days after.. carbs are so much better. Actually being diabetic is completely different to fast usage of nutrients... diabetcs need the sugar rush to prevent hypoglycaemia but their bodies won't deal with the excess sugar so they don't get the problems afterwards non-diabetics get.
little and often foodwise.. even if it is just a pocket full of fruit and savoury biscuits... arh! Now I want ritz crackers and spready cheese!
Delain.. most of my family are borderline diabetic and we have all been told the very worst thing to do is treat with sugar for the above reasons.. yet my ex BiL and SIL are diabetic and they are treated with the sugar as Jen describes.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
See I don't get the 'crash' quite so badly, but I find in the day as soon as I eat anything sugary at home (or even crisps) I'm out like a light
Which is why I tend to avoid the blood tests where the doc writes 'glucose' on the form :rotfl: I decoded the last one she gave me and she'd asked for just about everything  and I wanted to have some blood left after so 'lost' the form :rotfl: but she has done me another one and asked me to actually go this timeMum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

Thanks for the advice everyone, it's true that when I started work I'd only eaten a sausage roll and a handful of cherries, plus when I blacked out in Sainsbury's I hadn't eaten anything all day and it was about 4 in the afternoon
It's easy to forget that your body has different needs now than it did before, I'd usually only have a little snack during the day then a really big tea but I'll make sure I eat a proper lunch before I go to work from now on and have a supply of crispbreads or something orund the house for nibbling
. I always carry snacks in my bag with me when I go to work, but they're usually chocolate or biscuity type things, so I'll try and get some slices of bread and non-sugary things in too to keep me going.

I refuse all tests usually.. I've had the antibody check so I know the baby won't be made anaemic and die and that's it.. I refused the FBC, urine tests (they want them every month after my kidneys packed in last time) 4 weekly bloods (due to antibodies) monthly scans (to check cervix after 7 prem babies) and every other futile attempt at making me attend appointments. I refused the amnio too. I am a bad patient but cheap for the NHS to run! lol
The GTT sems to be most authorities in thing.. I am waiting for them to be stupid enough to suggest it to me.. they would get 'The Look'LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I had to ask for the GTT with Squeak, despite me having a family history of diabetes, and had 3 babies big for dates the first MW dismissed me out of hand and called me stupid.
When she left a new (much nicer one) joined the team here, actually read my notes and was horrified that they'd not recommended it, never mind refused it.
She said if it had been her she'd have suggested it herself, and she rushed me in for one asap.
Unfortunately that was when my immune system and my spinal cord had a falling out and I ended up being admitted to maternity the day I was meant to have it in a different hospital to the one I was meant to have it in :rotfl:Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

Hello - nice to see there's a few members of the Waynetta Slobs R Us Team
When I saw the doctor last week, she talked about the NT test along with the 12 week scan as if it was standard. I'm happy to have it (I think). Apparently the results come back the day after the scan which is a bit hairy.
I'm getting really fed up with telling porkies about why I'm not drinking now - it's getting to be highly suspect. I've got a friend's birthday night out on the Saturday 3 days before my scan... I wonder if I should just tell her...... ARGH.0
