Midwives here are obliged to ask during your pregnancy if you have been experiencing domestic violence - I guess if it's the same where you guys are then they seize the opportunity when OH isn't there cos it's one "ask" off the list and you're more likely to be honest!
  • good news girls, went for my booking today and got my scan! im spot on with my dates so my EDD is 8th november!
cant wait to tell everyone tonight as OH wants to tell his parents first.

on other hand he is on a downer today after having a grievance against him at work, by one of the most mouthy employees-not bias its honestly the truth, not that he's an angel either, so a bit stressed as the worst that can happen is getting sacked. his hearing is on thursday.

I've never taken OH to antenatals he comes to scans because he drives.. when I had the others I did those alone too

They ask about family in case one of you has a job with toxic chemicals or something which may affect baby.

I don't know anyone who has routinely taken OH to appointmments.. if you do they might think he is controlling to the point you are not allowed out on your own :p

My DH has come to every antenatal appointment with Lily and with this baby. Not because he's controlling but because he wants to be there to make sure everything is ok and to hear how his baby is doing.

He also asks questions that i have forgotten and listens because i always forget what she has said afterwards.

I agree with EA with DD my DH came to nearly every one of my appointments nothing to do with being controlling I think it's good that the midwives see your OH and get to know them, my old mw had a really good rapport with DH and it was nice when she came to the house after DD was born as she "knew" everyone. At least it shows that your OH is showing an interest.

This time it hasn't been the same as he has not long started a new job, but i did take him along once to introduce him to the new midwife and he will see her again next week for my final appointment.

My DH went to scans but for the MW it's pretty pointless as all she does is check my pee, feel my bump and tell me what way it is and checks BP. He went to the evening ante natal classes and took more in than me because I was tired. I don't think they're asking to make sure you're not "being controlled". At the evening classes it was all couples and I heard that during the day it's only really women who attend. Women get time off by law for appointments and men don't have that luxury.
It's personal opinion if you want them to go with you or not. It doesn't scream "your fella doesn't care about you" if he can't attend, more that he is out working to build a better future for you all and is lucky enough to be in work during these hard times.
  • My oh will come to what he can - definately the scans though!
  • Hey, good to see some "oldies" from the ttc thread. Can't believe you girls are almost due :j It doesn't feel like 5 minutes since you all left

I've got my early scan tomorrow, which my DH will attend. My mam has also asked to come so I hope they let her in too.

I spoke to the nurse at my GP's yesterday and she said I have a midwife appointment on 4th May, but I've got no other details as to whether she is coming to the house, we go to the GP's or the hospital. She said I'd get a letter in a couple of days.

2 more days at work then I'm off for 11 days and I can't wait as I am absolutely shattered. I didn't think I would feel much this early on, it's amazing ;)

    Hi all,

I ended up going to A&E last night... I'd had a bit of brown spotting and the doctor last week said if it turned into fresh blood to get seen straight away. So we spent 3.5 hours in there, I had some blood tests done and then told to come back in the morning for a scan. All is ok, the ultrasound (weird dildo thing) puts us at 6+2, so my official due date is 12/12/11.

The morning sickness (actually "all-day nausea" would be more appropriate) is a bit of a !!!!!!, and I have an unquenchable thirst. Boobs aren't as tender as they have been, and I'm not feeling physically tired yet - just emotionally we we're still up and down with it all and I need to make a decision re new-job-stay-in-oz or current-job-go-home by next Wednesday.

I'm a bit  with OH to be honest... He's mid-sulk about the possibility of going home to the UK earlier than we'd expected.

    Speak soon ladies :)

    Good luck today chloe!

Blue Monkey, glad all is ok. I know we get the brunt of ms, nausea, all that, but it's gotta be tough on the guys too...it's a pretty life-changing event. He'll come around.

Going for my booking in appt later today. Til then, going back out in the sun on an unexpected day off!
