in my area we just book an appointment with the doctor to let them know, they inform the midwife and then we get appointments. one around 10 weeks for booking in where the midwife takes all your deatils and one around twelve weeks for bloods and scans.
tell them the earliest date that you could be then at least you will see them quicker, if its too early on the scan for tests etc then they will just give you another appointment.
congratulations by the way
oh yes dont forget your matb1 form thats so you can get your prescriptions and dentist free while you are pregnant, and i believe the dentist is for a year after the baby is born toonow proud mum to 3 handsome boys :j latest one born 10/10/11:j0 -

Thanks for you reply. Did you get to see your doctor though?
I might wait another week and then just ring for an appointment without telling them why. Do you have to tell them at the doctors why you want an appointment? Its so long since I have been to the doctors for anything, well over 2 years. The only reason I told them today was because I wasn't sure if I would need to take a urine sample.
I didn't see the doc.. I rang the midwife and was sent the records through the post and an appointment for booking at 10 weeks..
If you want to see the doctor make the appointment but they are usually a waste of time.. unless you want a prescripion for folic acid..
And no of course you don't have to tell the receptionist why you want an appointment!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I'm just back from the GP. He weighed me and congratulated and told me to make an appointment with the midwife!
I'm five weeks and not allowed to book in until six weeks but the very kind receptionist winked at me, and asked if there was any possibility I might be six weeks already! Booked for 3 May (90 minute appointment). I'll be eight weeks then.
Feeling great. Very sore boobs and slightly woozy headed but generally the best I've felt for a long time.:):):)
Congrats y'all.0 -
ok well I've just eaten my first proper dinner for nearly a week, shepherds pie, lets hope I can keep it down, OH has just landed THANK GOODNESS, so he is finally on his way home albeit 8 days late, right well the house is tidy but I am not, best go get in the bath!! By the way am feeling really fat today, stomach is definitely protruding but not sure if it is the amount of food or bloating...... either way am a fatty lol. Poor OH he left a thin (ish) wife now hes coming home to a heffalump, Poor boy!0

spendaholic if it makes you feel better and will put your mind at rest go and see your doc hun, it can't hurt. I had to go as Ive had x-rays and was more than a little panicy about it, but I spoke to her for about 2 mins she said take folic acid and make a midwife appointment, that was it, she didn't even check I was pregnant I showed her my test and she just said thats definitely a positive! they did give me a bounty pack at reception though which has forms and some info in, not sure if all doctors give you that before you see the midwife. It's quite helpful so may be worth going just for that.0

I saw my doc just after I found out (about 5.5 weeks) & he just went througha few things like the possibility things can go wrong, but congratualations blah blah, then he told me to make an appointment for the midwife the following Wednesday. I then saw her on the Wednesday to start my records then she came round on that Sunday too to meet OH & finish the paperwork. Nothing more until my 12 week scan and I'll see her next week for my 16 wk appointment.0

Thanks Guys
I think I'll take a guess at the earliest possible date, I took a clearblue digi on Wed which said 1-2 weeks and then Thursday was 2-3 weeks. I took a tesco test Wednesday 30th March which was negative, I think the most it could be is 5 weeks, but probably more like 4 and a bit. I am currently a poas addict. I think I am still in a little bit of shock.
I don''t know why I thought I needed to see the doc. I'm already taking supplements (have been since coming off the pill), actually know rather a lot about pregnancy (studied midwifery for stint in my past), and have read loads on the internet. I was just worried about not knowing how many weeks I am. Think I'll try to book with the midwife the week that Easter Monday falls in, the receptionist did say to wait two weeks so I guess she was thinking to get to six weeks. I think that would be about 6 weeks or at least I can tell them that and then tell the whole tale to the midwife when I get to see her.
Thanks again. I'll go back to lurking for a little while.Desperately trying to get debt free!0 -
Goodness I'm soo tired! I slept on and off all day yesterday then slept all night from about 10 oclock and now because i have been awake all day I am so so tired, could really do with going to sleep, have been cleaning all day, am now writing one of my two assignments that have to be in asap, am going to have to stay awake and be bright and happy for when OH gets in at half ten/eleven, not sure how I'm going to manage it to be honest, am half asleep already. Could always have a snooze but then my assignment wont get written, aaaarrrggghhhh. Working, being pregnant, doing a degree and trying to be a good wife is turning out to be no easy task!
