Hi Andfear. Its up to you when you tell your boss but latest is by your qualifying week (week 25 apx). If you will be going off on mat leave and not returning until after the annual leave year ends, you can transfer it over and take it on your return - or take it before it's up to you. Some people take it all before they return others use it to do a phased return if their boss lets them.
Oh and you're supposed to accrue your bank holidays too not just your annual leave days (I work in HR btw)0 -
Think you have to tell them by 24 weeks. You will get a form from your midwife at 20 weeks to hand to your employer. Not sure how it works with Annual leave.
You can however tell them at any time. Most wait at least until the 12 week mark.
Not sure what I will be doing. This will be my third year of maternity in a row so having to go through all the rules again.Overdraft = £1000 Emergency fund = £2500

an9i77- thanks you sound so savy, SO in my head I dont know how far i am along dating scan nxt week. Tell boss after, and take annual leave b4 matty leave. I get 7 weeks from April-April SO thinking I may be due aug/sept/nov. I'd like to be off 9 months so take my 7 weeks before. Is it her discretion if I want it as a block or will I have to fit the 7 weeks inbetween now and say aug?
Sorry to be a bug, shes an old fashioned matron type and pretty damn scarry LOL
xx thanksww: -2.5, -4.5 lb0 -

Ordinarily, managers can stipulate when leave is taken HOWEVER they cannot discriminate between pregnant and non pregnant employees. So if she would make you take it all before august, but other people can take it at any time during the year then she is discriminating on the basis of your pregnancy which is illegal. But if for example everyone has to take two weeks off for a summer shutdown then it would be legal to make you take time off then too.
Also if you are not going to be returning until after the next leave year starts and you didn't take it all before you left you can accrue it and take it when you come back.
your leave year sounds similar to mine and we'd be due around the same time too. I am going to save as much as I can to tack on to the end of my mat leave, although that depends on how far I make it as I may need to finish early due to health reasons.
Don't forget you will be due all the bank holidays you've missed as extra annual leave when you return too!0 -
see I work in a crazy busy ward, and Id hate to see myself waddling up and down at 8.5 months with no open windows as were top floor and people jump so they are sealed barr 2 inches. Also up at 5.30 and I do long days so thats a 14hr shift eeck. Not to mention infections.
Thanks tho an9i77ww: -2.5, -4.5 lb0 -

Hmm... That's interesting, in my last job and pregnancy I was told that I had to take all my annual leave before starting maternity leave. When I went on mat leave early, they still wouldn't let me carry it over and paid me for it instead (I'd rather have had the extra time!).0 -
