    Quick question:

Did anyone's partner go to their first MW appointment? Is there any value in doing so?

Don't get me wrong, I want to be as involved as possible but my wife was surprised when I said I'd be happy to come along. The letter suggested it could take up to an hour.
My husband didn't come to the booking appointment. The most taxing question really was his DOB.

I'd say if it meant taking unpaid leave then don't bother as I don't think there was really any value for both of you to be there.

As people have said maybe the 18 week appointment (possibly first time listening to heartbeat) and the scans are the best ones.

  • Bodge...during my last pregnancy my oh didn't attend any of my midwife appointments. Whilst I agree it would have been nice for him to hear the heartbeat the scan appointments filled all his requirements.

Mini muffin...I'm dated as 7th july...am hoping we make it that far as my sons bday is 20th June and would hate for him to miss out.

My pregnancy symptoms are that I'm very tired and feel pretty much constantly sick. With ds1 I didn't feel as tired but was sick right until I gave birth!!

Took an hour for our booking appt and I went along.
For us it was useful as I could help her to remember details about the MC we had earlier this year.
And i could easily answer the "Are you related?" question!
  • My OH didn't come to the booking in appointment and he'll probably miss the 16 week one too due to work but he's come to the scan and definitely will for the 20 week one!

As I'm nearly 13 weeks now, I'm going to head over to the next thread but will still pop on here to keep up with everyone :)
  • Good Luck Sparkles!! Enjoy the 'Big Girls Thread' :)

Anyone else gaining weight already? I weighed myself this morning and I have already gained about 4lbs and Im only 5 and a bit weeks. My trousers feel quite a bit tighter and as work provides us with a uniform I can see them not fitting rather quickly (they werent exactly baggy to begin with) I am a bit worried I might have to tell work sooner than I thought, the maternity uniform they provide is very obvious and I would never get away with wearing my own trousers and nobody noticing.

Good luck sparkles, hope your hand is better soon and wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy!

@bodge, my DH is planning on coming to all appointments. His work is very close to the clinic and offers flexible working so he can attend without using annual leave. He also is quite eager to be involved. I think it really is down to whatever works best for you as a couple!

@rumfeeble I have put on about 3lbs but I swear most of that is on my boobs, they are feeling very heavy and quite a few tops are indecent!I have also noticed I am less bloated this week than last. Re work, would telling them you have put on some weight be an option? Are you finding the time is going very slowly? I will be six weeks on sat and I swear time is crawling by!

MV - Hope all goes well at doc's on Friday xxxxxxxxxx
If you can think it........it will happen
  • Afternoon gang.

    Hope everyone is feeling ok.

I still don't really feel confident enough to post here as I don't really feel pregnant! I was feeling really 'full' and bloated at work on Wednesday, but today I feel 100% 'normal', so my mind is going into overdrive.

A brief history: I have a 2 year old son, and have had 3 miscarriages. One at 9 weeks in jan 2010 and 2 chemical pregnancies this year in September and October (yes..2 in 2 months running :( )

I'm just over 4 weeks, and after some light spotting at the weekend where I thought it was game over again, things have setled down but I don't really have any symptoms to speak of.

Whew...anyway, I am lurking here and will probably chip in now and then.
