Morning. Congratulations to those who have had scans recently - it really doesn't seem real until you see that little bean squiggling on the screen!

I'll be 10 weeks tomorrow, dating scan is 4th Jan when I'll be nearly 13 weeks. Although the dates by lmp don't make sense it is the way the medical profession work it out all the way through.

Looking forward to getting to the scan as I know I won't relax at all until I see for myself!

As well as being nearly 10 weeks pg, my little girl is 11 months old today and having taken every last moment it's also my last day of maternity leave!

The scans and blood tests are pretty much all voluntary and should be discussed with you at booking. You don't have to have them although personally I'll have everything I can so long as it's non-invasive (ie. I wouldn't want cvs or amnio). Whether the nuchal scan is offered can depend on your area. With my dd they only offered a blood test downs screening but a friend in another area had the scan. This pregnancy I've been told they now do the scans here. It's part of the dating scan so nothing extra.

Am staying on this thread until my scan on Monday though, just to make sure.

Does anyone else use a pregnancy app on their phone? I love seeing the growth stages and sizes each week, it's incredible!

Hi Claire - where I live you had to give permission for any blood tests (I had to sign a form), we chose not to have the combined screening (nuchal scan + blood test) and at my booking appointment the midwife ticked a box to say which tests I did and didn't want, and then I signed.

It's worth noting (and the sonographer will probably explain) that they still do the nuchal measurement, as it's one of the standard measurements they do, but it doesn't mean they are going to do the screening so don't worry if you see them doing that measurement at the scan.

Hope everybody is doing ok - I'm thinking of moving over to the other thread, am 13 +4 now... sickness is easing (only been sick once this week) but still feeling nauseous and quite a lot of disgusting retching!!

Will still lurk here - you have all been a fab support in this early stage, it can be such a worrying time and it's very reassuring to talk to others experiencing the same worries/symptoms etc!

Hope to see you lots of you on the next thread :) mrs j xx

Sounds like where I am. I told the midwife I didn't want the test but she said I advise you to say yes now and then if you change your mind when you get to the hospital for the dating/nuchal scan you can change your mind. I couldn't be bothered to argue so I said ok. So ill just tell them when I go in. But good to know they might take the measurement part anyway so thanks.

I've been doing lots of research and there is no way I'm having it done so they can try to persuade me all they likd but it won't be happening.
