  • Hi,

    I'm new :j

Went to first appointment last week and I'm six weeks along, due date 8th June TBC at scan.

It's all very scary but I can see from looking back at this thread that you are all very supportive and full of information for someone like me who hasn't got a clue what happens! :o

I'm waiting for my appointment for the scan and I have an appointment for Flu and whooping cough next week.

So, I guess I just wait around and see what I can learn from you in the meantime :)

Sorry in advance for my MANY questions!

    Hi Wonder Girl

I think we should have a club for "clueless but pregnant" - we can both be the honoury members!:o I have my first appointment tomorrow - but I have tried to calculate my due date online (cluelessly!) - I reckon its around 4-5 days after you. But again...I'm in the clueless club - so who knows!!!!

Anyone any suggestions for getting rid of the bloat? Seriously - it looks as though I am 6-7 months not 5-6 weeks!:eek:

There's not much you can do about the bloating but it soon goes, I had it really bad at the beginning I've been fine for a coupe of weeks now

Lazy wife what time is your scan on Thursday ??
  • Thank you for the warm welcome ladies :D

Thank you for the info on the whooping cough jab Helen and Lazywife, I was just going with the flow! I'll ring the Dr's tomorrow to tell them in only need the flu jab now.

IHateDida, you're not wrong about me being clueless but pregnant! I feel way out of my depth with this, and I don't have anyone to talk to about stuff except my husband (I love him, but seriously, sometimes the cat makes more sense!). Lazywife wasn't wrong when she said it was a learning curve, it just looks like a very steep cruve from this end!

Mogwai - looks like you, IHateDida will all be around the same time, it's really nice to have people at the same stage so we can keep each other company all the way. :o

I'm really glad someone mentioned bloating, i didn't really think it was pregnancy related, just thought I'd had to many treats!

I can tell i'm going to spend loads of time here. :D

I have to confess I didn't really know much about babies and pregnancy, as made a point of not being too nosy when people talking about theirs... I know it sounds odd, but we've been married 4 yrs and the slightest hint of interest in pregnancy related discussions would be followed by twenty questions of "when is it your turn?" ..... grrrr.
At this point though I wish I had listened to all the advice on when to get a different bra, what foods to eat and not eat, when people started showing. I'm just going with the flow... and looking lots up on online (I find the NHS website and Bounty gives me a good gauge of where I'm at), just searched on google eg. pregnancy calculator, or 8 weeks pregnant etc.

Helen, scan is 10.45 on Thursday, to which my MW groaned and said, oh dear you'll be hours then!?!?! Nevermind, taken day as holiday so not rushing back to work and it'll be worth it to hopefully see the wriggler!
What timing are you on? Must be nice to have been through this a couple of times before, you've a bit more familiarity I guess.x

    hi all,

Lots of questions round flu jab- when I went to see the GP for the first time after discovering I was pregnant the GP gave it to me there and then. I think you're right that a whooping cough vaccine is recommended for later in the pregnancy (28wks+).
Also someone asked about my scan next week - its NHS at the local hospital early pregnancy unit, and its to date my pregnancy as my cycles were so irregular that there is a month window when I could have conceived! I will be booked for a 12 week scan as usual when they know my dates.
For all those people clueless as me, I would recommend the free guide book from Tommys charity about pregnancy. I don't feel ready yet for a big expensive book, but its nice to have something to hand for the questions that pop into my head! I ordered mine and it came within a week.
    Best wishes to all x
