My midwife appts are at the GP surgery, I will only need to go to the hospital for my scans (hopefully). Maybe call your GPs and ask how it works in your area? Friend (and peers from her ante-natal group) didn't decide on hospital for birthing until after their 20 week scan, but I am not sure how normal this is. She did say not to be rushed into anything though and it is possible to change your mind
Hotel- haha, we wish! That would be nice, wouldn't it! I guess if you paid to go privately, it might be a bit like a hotel
Originally I told (apart from OH), both our sets of parents (as they would have been suspicious as to why I refused wine over dinner), a couple of friends, lady from work (more on a "need to know" basis due to the job I do) and the lady who looks after our horses.
Hmm, might sign OH up for the NHS emails. He does keep saying that he wants to share as much of this as possible with me- hehehe
Since the scan the other day, I have also told my cousin and aunt0 -
I've rung the doctors and the midwife will be getting in touch with me0

After my scan tomorrow, if everything is fine... i will be able to tell everyone ! Can not wait, so glad it is early, i will be 10+5.

For anyone thinking about where they might like to give birth try birthchoiceuk.org for info on services available in your area. All being well we will be going to our local midwife led unit again (20 min drive) rather than the hospital (40 min drive).
For booking in I contacted the midwife at our local medical centre directly so didn't need to see/speak the the GP at all. Booking is done in 2 appointments - did the forms/urine sample this week and go back for bloods in another week or so. Will hopefully have a scan date by then to.
Has everyone got a copy of their Ready, Steady, Baby book? I was able to pick this up from the GP reception before I even saw the midwife...lots of info on healthy eating etc. etc. in there.
I'm in Scotland so guess it will be different from area to area0 -
Lozzy I'm not sure if this will be our last. I'll be almost 24 when this baby arrives, I don't really want to call 'quits' on my baby making days but I'm thankful for what I have and I really need to sort my bladder out (I wear thick pads constantly as my bladder cannot cope). If we have a surprise a few years down the line so be it, but I'm not sure we'll ever actively TTC again.
In my surgery you just put your name in the pregnancy book then you get a call from the midwife. No need to see the doctor
Only my OH and best friend know right now. I'll tell family in a few weeks, maybe after the dating scan. Other friends etc will not know until I'm at least 15 weeks, hoping to get to 20 weeks. My waters originally broke at 14+6 with Thomas and it was awful so I won't be able to breathe a sigh of relief until 15 weeks. Even then I'll be on tenterhooks because I had Oligohydramnios with Thomas. Pregnancy isn't fun for mehoping for a much smoother ride this time round.

At how many weeks do they do the dating scan? I've just realised my doctor didn't really tell me anything today!

The dating scan is the 12ish-week one
but if people do have an earlier scan, for whatever reason, they might be able to date then (I measured at 7 weeks 2 days on Monday and they calculated my EDD from this
I was amazed that they could tell me this at such an early stage)
My GP didn't tell me much either the first time. Most of what I have picked up was from talking to people and reading stuff. That's why this place is fab0 -
Dating scans are mostly around 12 weeks. I had mine at 10+6 though.
There are 2 waters, front and back. The back ones can keep filling and breaking. I was on bed rest for about 10 weeks and had regular scans. Normal amniotic fluid levels are 8cm. At its worst mine were 1.3cm. T continued to grow and I didn't get an infection so they kept a close eye on me - had I delivered they couldn't have done anything for him anyway. I drank a lot of water to keep the fluid up and at my 24 week scan the waters had revealed and my afi went up to 3cmWife and mother :jGrocery budget
