Probably not because you don't end up at a "material disadvantage". Very sneaky BT.
    See post 20
    Here's the relevant T&C sections :- (from BT T&C)

    Changing the terms (notification)

    47. Sometimes, we will need to change the charges or the terms and conditions of a service covered by this agreement. We will publish details of all changes online at https://www.bt.com.

    48. We will also let you know about a price increase or a change to the terms and conditions that we believe is likely to cause you material disadvantage at least one month before it happens. We will let you know about other price changes and changes to the terms and conditions with your next available bill or by an alternative method if this is simpler.

    49. For changes we need to make to meet legal and regulatory requirements, we may not be able to meet the timescale detailed in paragraph 48. We will let you know about these changes as soon as we can.

    50. If we make a change to the price or the terms and conditions of a service which is to your material disadvantage, you will not have to pay a charge if you decide to end that service early, unless the Tariff Guide says otherwise. However, once we have told you about such a change, you must let us know that you want to end that service within 10 days. This agreement will continue to apply to any other services that are not affected by any changes that we make.

I spoke to BT, and first they said, I will have to pay termination charge, but after I pointed them to thie T&Cs published on their website they noted to waive off termination charge against my account.
have not received anything in writing though.

I am on Unlimited Anytime plan paying £18.60 (£13.60 -Line Rental + £5.00 - Unlimited Anytime)
With price increase listed here http://www.calls.bt.com/pricechanges/?s_intcid=con_intban_YA_PYA_Price
the line rental is increasing from £13.60 to £13.90 but the cost of unlimited anytime package is decreasing from £5.00 to £4.70, so I assume my overall plan cost will remain the same £18.60.

So, can I get out of my contract (8 months into my 12 month contract) without any penalty?

If they wont let you out free the cost will only be £5 per month of unexpired contract.

They said they would waive off, but if they don't I will pay something around £20 according to this.
  • I emailed to cancel under the T&C, specifically requesting a response by email, and they called me instead I could hardly understand a word he said.

I tried to cancel but they made it so awkward and drawn out I gave up in the end I'll just wait til my contract is up in May :-(

They offered a £3 per month discount but only if I signed up for another 12 months I said no chance. I wanted the line binning altogether. After 15 mins I needed the loo, someone was knocking at the door so I just had to leave it.

    .

They always seem to do that, I reckon it so that you don't have any record of their actions.

I left them and went to my ISP for my telephone line and calls, best move that I have ever made, far cheaper with UK based technical support.

I tried to cancel my services with BT today as i dont agree with the price increase but was unable to do so. I have line rental and broardband option 1 with free evening and weekend calls. I got this in october as a package.

I said that i wanted to cancel but was told i couldn't as i was under contact. Also stated that as the price rise was inline with inflation then the terms and conditions weren't broken.

After pointing out their terms and conditions about canceling due to a disadvantage to myself the adviser stated that as the price rise was inline with inflation then the terms and conditions weren't broken. After going to speak to someone she said i could cancel the line rental but not the boardband as that price wasnt going up.

As far as i was aware i was on a package of line rental and broadband.

Anyone able to help me out here as BT are not listening to me.

Have customers had formal notice of the price increases yet? (letter or email). Perhaps try again when you get formal notice. But that possibly doesn't help if they'll cancel the line rental but not the broadband. !!!!!!s.

I just tried to phone again and got the same responce. She said i can cancel the phoneline but have to keep the broardband. I said that i couldn't have broardband without a phoneline but still wouldn't listen. After asking a few more questions too which the adviser was unable to answer the adviser stated i was making her feel uncomfortable and then cut me off.

Really not happy. Does anyone know if i am or am i not able to cancel and who do i contact.
