The increase in the price of 'Calling Features' is ridiculous, (in 2009 4 features cost £2.98 - now £6.00) so I have cancelled these. However I'm happy with £120 per year rental and £4.70 per month for all my landline calls including 0845 & 0870. If BT had a good UK call centre I would be a very happy bunny.0

With the continuing increase in line rental and decrease in anytime calling plans, I'm sure it will not be long before completely free landline to landline calls becomes a standard feature of residential phone line rental.0

Hence, that call would cost 5p (as would one of an hour, or 2 hours or .....)
I'd be willing to bet the amount of people with BT not on a calling plan that includes daytime calls who don't use 18185 would be in the vast majority. It's probably just as well or the line rental would be going up a damn site more, I suspect.
PS I am not a BT user, let alone a 'fan' of the company. (Just thought I'd make that clear)0 -
Think its time to move my line rental away from BT.I currently get calls from sky but because i cannot make 2 calls a month through bt,i get charged for caller display!.Even if Sky put up their line rental by 25p or so,it will still only be £11.50 per month compared with the £15 or so im paying now.0

Unfortunately you are spot on; I've been going thru & throwing out my old bills at the weekend - we were paying BT ~ £120 per quarter about 10 years ago - now our total cost is ~ £42 per quarter inc 18185!!!
Hate to think what some people must be paying now if they haven't changed anything. Note to self - must check Mother's phone bills!!0 -

Yikes! Yes, imagine if everyone on BT without a calling plan used 18185 what the line rental would be now! :eek: Having said that, I'm suspecting that £120/quarter charge included enough numbers called to now be economically viable to pay for the 24/7 calling plan? By my calculations just 4 calls a day (of any length) would make the 24/7 BT plan cheaper than using 18185?0 -
The only good thing about these price increases is as the opening poster suggests it does allow cancellation of services with no penalty charge to pay.
see the BT terms and conditions sections 47 - 50. tried to post link but can't as a new user, anyway google "bt cancellation charges" and the terms and conditions for BT telephony, broadband, infinity, vision etc should be one of the first things you get.
I have just cancelled my contract with them that was only 4 months into a 18 month contract, the fact that they are increasing the charges means under section 50 of the T &Cs above you are entitled to cancel your service with no early cancellation charges. Worked for me anyway, glad to get rid of BT, not really sure why I ever went back to them. Hope this helps someone else.0 -

Yes, more than enough calls to justify Anytime - but don't think calling plans were available back then and mobiles were a rarity.......and expensive!!
Suspect a large number of BT subscribers are still on the basic rental with free weekend calls and are paying for all weekday calls at vast expense.:eek:
Ties in with a reply on another thread re CCA cold callers trying to "convert" BT customers over to 12 month auto renewing contracts with w/e |& evenings package.0
