    Have you tried EHICplus?

The Co-Op were brilliant for us. They covered everything that is treated solely by GP. Their only exclusion was the one ailment that my husband sees a Consultant for.

The more I do this the more I am feeling my age!!

I have just tried EHICplus, which in itself is a very good idea, but once again the result on the web says that I cannot be covered!!!

Am going to try the CooP later but don't hold out much hope as all of my conditions are being dealt with by a consultant, and that I have regular tests and reviews for all.
    But I will try!

    Thanks again

Could I ask what conditions you have parsons? We have another regular poster with multiple conditions ... Perhaps he could offer some advice?
    Gone ... or have I?
  • For travel insurance I have used lloyds tsb as I bank with them.

I have Fish Insurance for a lot of my disabled equipment I do not know if they do travel insurance but I would check them out if I were you.
FYI Fish have just launched a travel policy which covers pre-existing conditions and offers other benefits such as provision of a replacement carer and cover for mobility aids. Details on their website.
  • Hi Parsons, I've had exactly the same problems as you, it's frustrating!

I've got a cancer diagnosis and heart condition, both being treated by consultants. I wouldn't anticipate any problems with either condition abroad, neither are likely to cause medical emergencies at present. Both conditions are extremely rare and are lumped together with other things that are possibly less stable but more understood which is where my problem lies. I actually work full-time and know my limitations and manage the conditions reasonably well, my consultants are perfectly happy with me going abroad.

I go to the US 4-5 times a year and have 'normal' insurance but with exclusions as it was my only way of getting insurance now - not ideal but I am very confident that nothing untoward will happen. Apparently insurances tightened up their criteria last year, I tried literally dozens got the same answer everywhere, prior to that I had very little problem with getting insurance despite my conditions being far more volatile.

Lots of posts about them elsewhere on this site, but worthwhile reminding people:

Do NOT consider any insurance that mentions AXA - whether they provide the insurance or are underwriters. Too many horror stories about them. Do yourself a huge favour and steer well clear.

I second that, i'm currently having a mare of a time with AXA

I'm happy to make it one of my missions in my life to warn people against AXA. Curiously, there was an item on the BBC this morning about a couple who had purchased wedding insurance. Their wedding ended up having to be cancelled due to snowy weather. Well, their insurers refused to pay up in full and surprise, surprise, the policy was underwritten by AXA.

One of AXA's head honchos was interviewed by the BBC, and all of a sudden they agree to pay up. Folks, please avoid AXA. They are nothing but grief.
