I have always used Fortis Insurance since I discovered that they were the only ones not to heavily penalise me for having had a cancer diagnosis along with numerous other conditions.

I only had to agree to this statement to not have to go through medical screening. This is for an annual policy.
The Declaration (Fortis Insurance Policy) - other policies have different medical conditions requirements.

    Nobody:
    • is waiting for an operation, hospital consultation (other than for regular check ups), or other hospital treatment or investigations
    • has received treatment, other than regular medication, in the last 12 months for:-
      • any blood disorder
      • Dialysis treatment
      • Any form of cancer, leukaemia or tumour
      • any psychiatric illness
      • a transplant
      • dementia
    • diagnosed as HIV positive has required treatment for HIV or any HIV related illness
    • has any breathing or heart problems which has needed hospital treatment in the last 12 months
    • has been seen by a specialist in the last three months (other than for regular check ups) or been admitted to hospital overnight
    • nobody has been given a terminal prognosis by a registered doctor
    • I do not know of any reason (medical or otherwise) why the trip is likely to be cut short
Whenever I tried to get insurance via medical screenings, I was either was not insurable or the premium was totally excessive. I'm still on daily medication for cancer, but they allow this (many do not). Some of my other conditions don't feature in this computerised world (osteomyalitis, lymphoedema) and this causes real problems in medical screening.

Thing is, I think the wording has changed since then but I'm unable to find whether this is true (hope not as I will be stuffed!).

I used this site last year to do some comparisons.

Good luck and have a good trip!
Just in case you were wondering (some have)..... I'm a woman!

Our recent claim was a cruise holiday. The ship's medical bill alone was £3.5K, which needed to be paid before we were disembarked.

What ! Which cruise line ?

My wife ran up a $9500 bill on the QM2, all we did (in effect) was sign an IOU to Cunard and passed it onto our insurers (Saga) - never heard another word about it.

Hi just wondering if anyone knows of any good providers of pre exsisting medical conditions travel insurance. I usually pay £19 from a company i used before but cant find them anymore! seems they have dissapeared :(

Hi, last year I used the AA for my DH and the quote was £146.72pa including IPT. this year it has gone up to £175.85pa. Europe exc Ski. We answered yes to major illness but I am still searching to see if I can get this reduced. you can call them on 0800-917-2661/01252-745-630. You also automatically become an AA member when you purchase their insurance cover so when you renew they offer you a further 10% idscount. hope this helps.

Lots of posts about them elsewhere on this site, but worthwhile reminding people:

Do NOT consider any insurance that mentions AXA - whether they provide the insurance or are underwriters. Too many horror stories about them. Do yourself a huge favour and steer well clear.

This was P&O. I bet you would have heard more about it had your insurers declined your claim.

Oh my dear! There was me thinking that I could have a holiday abroad this summer.

I tried your link and they will insure me to go to Europe for a week, but have declined cover for everything that is wrong with me!

Never mind, I can go on hoping.
But thanks for the link anyhow.

PS Just out of interest, SAGA would not quote on the internet!

    Motability now do travel insurance.

I have just tried to get a quote for 7 days European travel from Motability, but once again they have declined.

It is really of no consequence anyhow as I have accepted that if I do travel outside the UK, I will not be able to get any cover for my pre-existing conditions. Shame really, but hey that's life.

It's a pity that the DWP/ATOS don't see it that way - they decided that I was fit for any work as I failed their test and received a miserable 0 points!

    But thanks for the link.

    Have you tried EHICplus?

The Co-Op were brilliant for us. They covered everything that is treated solely by GP. Their only exclusion was the one ailment that my husband sees a Consultant for.
