Is this for travel within the EU or further afield?0

Following my recent experience I would look for good rather than cheap. With pre existing medical conditions you are almost always going to have to pay more.0

Depends on what the existing medical condition is, I am looking for cover for family and my wife has MS, so am looking at insurance via the MS Society, but it looks like the Post Office is also worth a look.
Interested to hear other peoples views (going on a crusie and cruise company's insurance is very expensive)..0 -

Our recent claim was a cruise holiday. The ship's medical bill alone was £3.5K, which needed to be paid before we were disembarked. Always make sure the insurer offers cruise cover, a lot don't.0 -

Try EHIC plus as you are going to Spain. Always make sure you have the completely free EHIC card. You can apply online.0 -
Try an online quote from Flexicover. You get it instantly and it will give you an idea of what companies will charge." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

I have had experience of that card!! In Cyprus they do accept it but only in their local hospitals. Uggghhh, you should have seen the place - talk about 3rd world country!!
Anyhow, moved to an American private hospital, and for a weeks stay some in ICU, the bill came to just under £10,000.
Travel insurance wouldn't cover it as it partially related to a pre existing condition - Post Office - Fortis.
Had to get daughter over from UK with cash to pay the bill before they would hand back the passport.
So beware - NHS care abroad can be very hit & miss!!! I wouldn't have it!!
And make sure you get good travel insurance. Just had a quote for 2 days in France - £470 from SAGA
The care my husband has just received completely free on production of his EHIC card was actually superior to that I would have anticipated from an NHS hospital here. Spotlessly clean hospital, own en suite bathroom and shower, extremely modern electric bed.
I honestly feel he would have been one of the flu death statistics had he been in this country when he became ill.
All my husband's pre existing conditions were covered by our insurers except rheumatoid arthritis0 -
Healthcare in the EU countries I know is frequently superior to that in the UK. Why people worry about being repatriated from France, Spain or most other countries I'll never know.0

My husband and I both have long term medical problems that will last for life, his being a lot worse than me............we have been abroad between hospital admissions and tell the ins company everything ...................
We always get supermarket insurance , any one of the big ones do it, and make sure they know of existing medical probs, we do pay a bit more than a well person ,but its still very cheap we find...........................and its peace of mind.....0
