Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Fri 4th Feb. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

Morning.

Friday, which for some is the start of the weekend. I know my OH will be happy as the school week ends.
I have a working weekend, so just another day which finishes at 10 pm tonight.
I think I got my tax issues wrong yesterday. The £7500 free allowance means in real terms that the threshold is pushed up somewhat. But still lowered from last year. There should be less tax for all except the very rich. I don't consider 40% tax on +£35,000 to be very rich. The government takes far too much money as it is!

Mild and windy down our way. All a bit dull looking.

Have a good day
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!

  • Work today (Thank God it's Friday)! OH is going to the library for me this afternoon (to drop off tons of books and pick me up my new one!!!) Tonight we are having vegetable fingers, mash and sweetcorn for dinner, DS has a friend coming over for the weekend so his mum can get on with some coursework.

I have to bake bread tonight, as the loaf I bake tastes better the next day and I would like it for Breakfast tomorrow!

I have a full weekend of batch making food for the freezer!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day today x
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

Morning N9eav,JuliaG & all to follow

The wind kept me awake most of the night so am up early this morning - will be flagging by lunchtime.

Having a house day today, normal daily jobs then deep cleaning the front room and washing the windows in there. Loads of washing and ironing to get through too.

Not too sure what is for dinner, OH & I were going to the cheap local carvery but he finished work too late so need something for tonight. Will have a route around in the freezer when I can get the motivation to go out to the garage.

Had salmon last night & the kitchen is still a little whiffy, had a cooks candle somewhere and think will open loads of windows and air the house when I am doing the housework.

Thats it for me, have a great day.x

Hi all. A bit milder here this morning and we've been forecast some sun over the weekend. After the week we've had - freezing cold until yesterday, which was slightly less cold but wet - we could do with some sun. Still, after seeing what other parts of the world are going through, the weather here is nothing to grumble about.

I spent yesterday chasing French red tape, an ongoing situation mainly because the French just love using ten sheets of paper when only one is needed. I think they call it job-justifying!

OS-wise - I need to get some serious dusting and vacuuming done today so I shall try my best to keep at it until all the dust is gone! Dinner will be stiry-fry with chicken and noodles.

NO further news about my BIL apart from the fact that he is doing well and eating and sleeping well, too. He doesn't even feel ill, which is great.

Well, no more news for now. Will call back later. Hope you all have a good day.

thank crunchie it's Friday, damp & drizzly here today.
DW just finished, fish fed & hubby dropped at the station with his packup.
Y'day's meeting was moved to next Thursday as some of us were too busy to get to the meeting.
I had to open all my doors yesterday morning as I had a very smelly teacher in my room for a while. He looks a mess everyday, but when he's spoken to he claims he can't afford to buy new clothes regularly on a teachers salary! I can't afford new clothes on my salary, but I buy mine from charity shops & wash them regularly.
    Have a good day everybody.
    Hugs Hester.

Morning everyone - haven't read any daily threads since halfway through Tuesday but am back now.

High winds kept my sash windows rattling like billy-oh last night, and the lashing rain wasn't much quieter. Thankfully it's all died down now. The other day I rang my nephew who lives on the Gold Coast and he's survived their horrors too. :j

Office work today after my couple of days up and down the motorway so will be catching up on things (email inbox!).

Got home-made soup for lunch and then it's take-away tonight. Don't need to buy anything so some OS going on (apart from the take-away).

    Hope everyone is doing well.

Morning everyone - think I've been blown away by the winds going round our house atm. Phew! Tesco delivered last night - and tonight we have the great Friday leftovers for tea - basically a stirfry of anything thats in the fridge which needs using up!

Got a letter last night from the DVLA. My photocard driving licence is about 10 yrs old so they'd like me to renew - AT A COST OF £20. I am fuming. Why should I have to pay when I don't have a choice about whether I have a photocard driving licence or not. GRRRRRR Still I have no choice, so I'll have to pay.

Both DSs still off from school - nasty cough (croup) cold and the youngest was a bit sick (probably because of the cold). OH has been stupid and has stayed up all night working on something - probably because he was playing his stupid computer games for most of the night. Have work today - but will have to go in late as OH has to go and drop off what he's been working on - talk about last minute!!

Did two sets of nails for clients last night, and painted a little girls nails - so thats all money in the pot! Weekend holds me helping out at the school coffee morning - so cooking a load of cakes tonight; and then wind permitting I'd like to be out in the garden inspecting what damage the snow has caused! A client told me last night that we're due for heavy snow next week - but can't find any information about it - any one know any different?
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Morning everyone

Very wild here last night, and still is, but the rain's just about stopped.

Tons of washing/ironing to do today, hoovering all downstairs & blitz the kitchen. Also loads of kids' clothes to sort of selling/giving away - just been given a lot of hand-me-downs from a friend for the baby, so need to de-junk as there's nowhere to put the new stuff!

Found out we've rats in the garage (yeuch!!!) so was hoping the weekend would be dry so we could tidy up and find the bu99ers to put down poison or something - might have to brave the rain to do it as I don't want to wait until they've had children!!! :(

Have a good day all, see you later.

    A xo

    Morning all,

Wet and windy here, the wind was howling all night, meant to be worse today.

I have the day off today :j, took some holiday owing, I feel that I have done nothing but rush around for weeks and I need some time at home to just be, so I will spend the morning pottering and cleaning, and this afternoon I shall sit and do nothing :D

Saw dad last night he was ok but very tired and we only stayed an hour and then he wanted to sleep so we left, he will be home tomorrow :T one of the other ladies there who generally walks the corridors all the time, stood up and tucked my vest top into my jeans, and held my hand, bless her, her daughter was there, and she had a tear in her eye and said that her mum thought I was her daughter, its so sad to see people like that.

Any hoo, chicken casserole for dinner tonight, will have to see if my sc works otherwise will do it in the oven, will do some cous cous with it for a change.

Need to get some washing on the go,and have a general clean / tidy through.

Nic, its nice to see you posting xxxx

Tapers, sorry about the break in xx

Jackie :T well done to your dd xx

    Have good days all xx
