Pigpen I thought you could get them done everywhere or at least in your nearest city? There are lots of clinics here that do them and they even try and undercut each others prices! :rotfl:

    We are the nearest city!

pigpen do you not have a babybond near you? Im sure it was only £79 for a gender scan when I was [STRIKE]being impatient![/STRIKE] looking

Nope nothing.. the nearest is York or Leeds (50-65 miles away).. and OH will not drive all the way there just for that. I was looking at a private dating scan and there is nothing. there is a place does the 4D scans but they will only do them after the anomaly scan at 20 weeks.

    Always puzzled,

My blood pressure normally rests on 90/60. That's pretty much the textbook indicator for low blood pressure. If the top number is lower than 90, it's considered quite low. If bottom number falls below 60, again, quite low. My blood pressure today is 80/50. :) Doesn't affect me much, barring sore head, fainting, swooning at people's feet- everyone's used to it now. It's fairly easily managed as long as you're careful.
With high blood pressure, it can be lowered by diet, exercise, stopping smokin etc, but there's little can be done for low blood pressure to raise it. Plenty of water, watch standing and sitting- do it slowly- and the same as a diabetic, snacking is better than full meals. Keep hydrated, and exercise regularly.
I've always had low blood pressure.

Wow, thats amazed me - just looked up my notes, last few readings have been 90/60 100/60 98/54 98/60 not once has anyone said this is "unusually low" just that its "nice and low", hasn't dropped at all since I stopped smoking (completely smoke free since 1st of Jan - really proud of myself) and I guess I'm fairly fit but as a decorator I'm reaching up and crounching down and up ladders all the time. So I guess its just normal for me?

    Afternoon everyone

Congrats to Vroom :j and good luck to Teenie - got everything crossed for you x

Re the sexing scans - I have found out with each of my pregnancies so this one was no different.

I had a private scan at approx 14 weeks (not for sexing purposes I was having issues with bleeding) and the consultant though could not be sure thought he saw the appropriate markings for a girl.
At the 20 week scan the sonographer strongly agreed with the girl theory and as a result we have only ever had a girls name ready and loads of girlie stuff (this will be my last baby)

:o However it is worth bearing in mind that unless you have had an amnio they can never be certain of the sex of the baby and can get it wrong (have known this to happen not to me so far but to others)

I have a 32 week scan next week so will again seek confirmation that it is my little girl who is growing in there but I feel very conscious that if the opposite to what I'm expecting happens I will feel very odd - having named and visually dressed and prepared for my DD2's arrival :o lol!:rotfl:

(Not that I wouldn't be happy with another boy of course but I'll admit I would be totally unprepared at this stage)

My 20 week scan has been done each time by a consultant is that unusual?

Maybe it depends on your hospital but in our hospital trust the scans are done by a Sonographer. My 1st scan was done by a Midwife Sonographer and she thought she saw a problem so made me another appointment with the actual Sonographer whom she explained was fully trained.

Pigpen I think if my OH behaved the way yours does I would either be single or facing time in prison and I am very even tempered normally and can't remember ever having anything stronger than a minor disagreement with anybody let alone a proper argument! :(. My OH drove all night from really far south when he got back to this country to make it here in time for our 20 week scan and tbh I wouldn't have considered anything else acceptable as if roles were reversed I would have done exactly the same as he did.

My biggest fear :o It happened to my friend. She already had a little girl and was told she was having a boy so got rid of all her girly stuff and bought lots of brand new boys stuff. Poor little girl was dressed in blue for the first few weeks and my friend had washed everything so couldn't even return it!

Im sure I could get away with dressing a little boy in pink for at least the first year.......:D

I have bought plain white and a selection of gender neutral sleep suits just in case but amongst the neutral cardigans and accessories I have slipped in a good few girly items so that I can still put baby in suitable clothes should the prediction be wrong! :D

We have never argued.. not once..

He just wouldn't see the point in paying for the scan driving 50+ miles for a scan they will do here in a couple more weeks and the money that will cost in fuel and trying to get back for 3pm.. I can see it from his point of view and it is fairly selfish of me to ask it of him really just because I want to know NOW.

I did consider booking one in Manchester when we are there but his mother would want to come and I wouldn't want her there.. because I don't tell anyone the sex anyway it would make it difficult to go and say well we aren't telling you and I know he would want to and if she whined she wanted to come with us he would say she could because he can't say no.

I was told DD1 was a boy.. and not just once but 3 times!!!! She was dressed in blue for the first week as well.. until my stepmother went shopping.. fortunately I'd had ds1 first so not bought much.

It happened to my friend too. She was told she was expecting her much wanted little girl after two boys and out popped a little boy! She was a bit gutted after getting her hopes up but loves him so much still

Must be a real shock when that happens! I have a friend who was told it was girl, but it was a boy. I wonder how often they get it wrong?

I don't know how I'll feel if they've got it wrong, although the sonographer did get an excellent view from 2 angles and there was definitely something there, and we both saw it too! She was very giggly about the fact it was so, erm, obvious :rotfl: She said she was in no doubt what she had seen, so if it's a girl I'm worried! :rotfl:

On a practical level though, what would you do?!! I've bought all blue nursery stuff and have washed it all ready. I suppose you'd have to ebay it and recoup some money that way. What a thought!!
