Does your Diabetes get worse during pregnancy?

I mean do you have to be extra careful what you eat due to pregnancy hormones effecting the Pancreas?

For me pregnancy is a particularly difficult time and it is very hard work but that is just me so don't worry too much! :o. I get ms constantly day and night from day 1 to delivery which complicates things somewhat. :o. There is even greater emphasis on maintaining tight control during pregnancy which requires regular changes to insulin doses but for me the hormones result in far more frequent episodes of hypoglycemia which is why I spend most of my pregnancies off sick. :(. Diabetic ladies get put on a 7 point testing regime to monitor blood glucose levels this involves testing before and 2 hours after each meal and before bed time and there are set blood sugar ranges that each of these tests are meant to fall into. So far through this pregnancy my highest HbA1C reading has been 5.1 which is within the healthy range for non diabetics which goes to show that it is not always just unstable blood glucose levels that cause large babies! :D. :rotfl:

Hi BCS. sorry to hear about the diabetes. Not much advice I can give as I have little experience. I believe peas and sweetcorn are particularly high in calories (so I guess sugar?) as far as veg go so maybe try switching those but your dinner sounds pretty healthy to me. If I ate that I'd give myself a tick in the healthy box. I luuuurve carbs and sweets but I've been trying to cut down on sugar this past week or 2 as I think sugary things are making my heart thump a bit and making me super thirsty. I hope your midwife can give you some information.

Hi everyone! Crikey I'm away for a couple of days then we suddenly have lots of births! Congrats to all of you and I love both the boys and girls names. DH wants Ethan too!

BCS sorry to hear about the diabetes. I've got a midwife app today when I expect to be tested and get told I am too. I'll get as much info as poss.

Not much to add from my camp. I spoke to DH about how I was feeling and he seems to be making an effort to look more interested. He did say that until he's here there isnt much he can do. I didn't have the heart to ask if he thinks we need anything or if he has a clue how the difference in my salary will be made up! Thank god I'm a control freak!

On a plus note he finally felt the babe kick last night! Baby keeps going shy whenever DH tries to grab a feel!

Congrats Delain and any other newbies!

Congrats to all the new mummies! I always seem to miss the announcements, I'm sorry if I don't remember the names. But Vroom sticks out, bet you're relieved to finally meet your baby!

BCS hope you're able to get some more support soon, sounds to me like you're eating healthy, but I don't know anything about diabetes...

Abby I heard an interview on womans hour recently about this subject! How female actors are more & more playing shakespeare roles originally played by men. My answer to the question would be "yes" but that doesn't really fill the page :p maybe you can use modern film examples from imdb?

I'm feeling a weeeee bit better mentally (until someone asks me a stupid question, like "have you looked at nurseries yet?"), but now I have a cold and feel a bit poo. I've got my big list and keep it by the bed at night for when I wake up in a sweat, and I take it everywhere with me. I'm even starting to cross things off!

Hope you all have a good day!

P.s. Welcome newbies! Pls keep coming, but not too fast cos you keep pushing me up the list and I'm not ready yet :o

mrs spendalot some people have said you can make up a big jug of RLT and put it in the fridge and drink it as a cold drink throughout thr day if that makes it sound more appealing?

Great news on a positive scan puzzledbubbles and yay for team yellow! You have more willpower than me!:D

:rotfl:Doglover everytime OH puts his hand on my stomach to feel baby kick she stops! I think I have a stubborn girl! He finds it hilarious though as if I lift up my top he can see my stomach moving around but again as soon as he tries to touch she refuses to move!

Well Im 28 weeks today which according to my Iphone app is third trimester  (it also tells me I can look forward to urine leakage when sneezing or engaging in vigorous exercise - yeah right)
