My MIL has been getting on to me that she wants to be there at the birth and even though I have said no (I mean seriously the less people that see my foof the better!) she keeps guilting me saying how she has never seen a baby be born. The fact is whether I am at home or in hospital the ONLY people I want there are my OH and my mum (apart from the obvious medical people) - im not particularly close to MIL and I don't care what anybody says but when Im in labour it's going to be my rules! I worry that she would turn up anyway so am planning on not telling her anything until baby is born!

She also "told" me that she is coming to stay for a week when baby is born - I put her straight about that. Apart from anything she only lives a 5 minute drive away and if I want help I will ask for it but I would like to spend the precious few days with mainly me and OH and baby. Im sure it's only going to get worse....

In the early days, I could only manage breastfeeding using a V pillow round my front to rest the baby on to raise them to a comfortable height. I can't remember how I managed anywhere other than home!!!

I used 2 of them all the time and they were fab! My Mum used to keep 2 pillows aside with a fresh sheet to cover them when I was as hers :D Even when I stopped b/f'ing I still used to have them on my lap for months after (I would eat my tea etc off them) it was almost like a comforter :o

I must remember and get those pillows might do it later.

I can think of nothing worse than having my MIL at the birth! I would rather have my closest friend from work than my MIL!!! I also wouldn't want them staying for a week! Having said that, given that my in-laws haven't spoken to my or hubby since August 2009 I'm not sure I need to worry about them trying!

My brother and his girlfriend had a baby a couple of years ago and her mother came to stay for a week before the birth and 2 weeks after, which his girlfriend was really happy about. However, when we spoke to him about the whole thing he was gutted and felt pushed out. She was present at the birth, and he felt like it took the moment away from him and his girlfriend as being their special moment as a couple. I felt quite sorry for him. My mum didn't get to see the baby for 2 weeks because she didn't want to impose on his girlfriend by going down to visit them.

Finally put my crib together, am now rewarding myself with baileys haagen dazs :)

Stand your ground Apricot, there is no way on earth i would have my mil at the birth of my child, she has offered to come up to "help" after, but i've told oh - no way. You need time together with bubs and oh, well i do anyway, and want to spend some time as a family with my kids, not have "extra's" staying
