I went to classes when pg with my oldest and found them useless.. I had much younger siblings I had cared for on many occasions so we went for KH who had never seen a baby before his was placed in his arms.

I could make up a bottle, change a nappy and relax is my middle name... I didn't feel I gained from it... so I think it depends on how confident you are and how much time you have spent around babies in general and if you have anyone who you can ask questions, a mum or sister or friend for example.

There is no way I would have paid for classes.

I also found the Parentcraft useless. Most of it was common sense and nothing about labour..
But i am also the oldest of 6 siblings and i read an awful lot. I also got most of my knowledge from this website.

So whilst they were rubbish for me, im sure they were fantastic for others :)

The HV came today for my Antenatal thing. I was given about 100 leaflets which i will read at some point and we discussed how im generally feeling.

Just under 3 weeks until my growth scan :D

I have a midwife appointment tomorrow so will ask what the NHS classes are. To be honest, the thing I hear most often about NCT classes is that it's a good chance to meet people. But £175 would pay for me to go to A LOT of mum+baby coffee mornings! If the NCT classes are genuinely useful then I would do it but don't want to fork out just for the sake of it. OH has practically zero baby experience but isn't that keen on them anyway...he nearly made it through a whole OBEM episode this week though so is improving :rotfl:

Pigpen - what is KH short for? I'm guessing your ex but can't work out what you've named him.

Everyone always says contraction pain feels most like period pains I found them more like the pain when you have a very bad tummy and need to run for Diawoo

This is exactly what I think it feels like - when you have really bad cramps before diawoowoo!!

Update from me - I tried to sleep from 10pm, but was waking up for each contraction so me and DH have given up and come downstairs. I have put my Tens machine on, and fingers crossed it seems to be having some effect. Been timing and over the last hour my contractions have been approx every 8 min lasting about 2 min.

I want to try and stay at home as long as possible, so labour vibes much appreciated!

Thanks for the support ladies! x

ETA - Just had a contraction and vomited quite badly :(

I blame the biscuit DH just gave me.

Wow, its all kicking off in here tonight! :)
I'm having "real" contractions, at least more intense and painful than any bh I've had before. They are only every 10 mins at the mo, but lasting just over 1 minute. Babysitter has been called, but going to wait it out now and perhaps get the tens machine ready.

    Morning JoJo :)

    Race you....lol

I'm on contractions every 6 min now and have been using my tens machine for the last couple of hours. I really think its helping. I'm on Level 1 - Intensity 8! Sitting on my birthing ball as well, eating toast!

Labour vibes to all in need x

Lets go Sammy, can't believe this moment is finally here. I put my tens on about an hour ago, it definately helps. I'm only on intensity 4 though, don't want to ramp it up too quick. Contractions are around 5-6 mins apart but vary in length from 40 secs to a minute, which doesn't seem long enough and makes me think "what if it all stops"
Have called labour suite, they said to give it half an hour make sure everything is still regular then call them back. They are busy tonight and someone is in the birthing pool, so i'm not going to get my water birth :(
