    morning girls x

Got my physio at 10:30, so fingers crossed for a) a parking space outside the hospital and b) I get a good night's kip tonight

My heart is absolutely breaking for Amanda Holden. Its so scary. Before I got pregnant, I always thought once you were past the 12 week stage you were pretty much safe but since Lily Allen and now AH I can't help but worry:(

    Good morning ladies

(((Hugs))) Digitalphase. Sorry to hear about Max :( Our pets are such a major part of our family aren't they? I hope his wife is ok. Are you going to get another one to keep her company? My neighbour has 3 cats who I always feed and litter when they are on hols - and their oldest is on his way out. He was actually a stray cat that I ended up bringing home and she took him in because he wasn't getting on with my dog.

Claire - Welcome to the thread. Have you got your due date and we can add you to the list?

Sharkey - Shocking that they hadn't written about the Strep B in your notes. I hope everything is ok with the scan. I actually don't know anything about Strep B. What is it and how is it detected? Is it found via your blood tests?

Dusty - The decorating of the nursery is all done now. Just waiting for the cot to arrive - ours is M&P too - so I hope all the bolts will bet there! I'm still to unpack the clothes etc and put up accessories. We still have our spare bed in there at the mo as my parents live 180 miles away and they are coming to visit early March so I said I will keep the bed til then but once they leave the bed is going so it can be a proper babys room :D Theer seems to be a bit of a DIY frenzy in my house at the mo - we all went to get it all done before baby arrives as DIY will be the last thing on anyone's mind I should think! How is yours coming along? Did OH "get someone in" to have a look at that damp patch. Whenever my DH says that he means his Dad :rotfl:

Gosh, bad night sleeps all round. My night wasn't great either, Bubs woke me up with hiccups and DH was snoring like a pig

Kings Speech was very good. I do enjoy those type of films and I do like Colin Firth. Even DH enjoyed it and he usually only wants to go to the cinema to watch James Bond or Batman *roll eyes*

Wow, epic post from me. DH is out of the bath now so we're off to walk the pup and then need to crack on with this wallpapering. Got our last antenatal class tonight and we get a tour of the maternity unit :j Very excited.

Have a good day ladies x

  • Morning Ladies. Sorry that most of you didnt sleep well, I tossed and turned as well, plus DH was snoring his head off, and is now complaining that he is still tired.lol. Gotta love men sometimes - take a night in my world.

Well had a call from the hospital this morning and I have to go for a scan at 1.15pm. I'm a wee bit nervous about it, but hopefully everything will be ok. DH ex wife is a MW so he called her this morning and she said its probably just a procaution so I am trying to stay positive.

Sammy_Girl - I found out I had Strep B wen I went for a smear last year before I fell pregnant. The nurse told me at the time that if I ever did fall pregnant to make sure that I advised the MW's asap as there are things that they have to do whilst I am in labour. I done this at my booking in appointment but they never filled it in and I am ashamed to say that I didnt notice it until I was 34 weeks, the whole sum and total for me is that I should have had another swab 3 weeks ago to check and see if it was still there, but that was missed and I think that is why I am so angry about it. I have launched an official complaint this morning and I am awaiting the form to be sent out.

Hope everyone is ok today and RIP little max. My DH lost one of his tropical fish at the weekend and was devastated. xx

((HUGS)) to you Sharkey - I'm sure everything will be fine. From what I've read about Strep B it doesn't necessarily mean the baby will get an infection and if it does it is easily treated with anti-biotics. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about.

Sammy - course OH hasn't got anyone in about the damp patch (although it involves someone going on the roof and with the recent wind and rain I doubt anyone would've come out.)
I am mithering him though :)
We are keeping our double bed in the babys room, I figured if I ever need to sleep in there then we already have it, can use it for feeding etc. Although it does take away from the 'baby' feeling of the room.

Can i ask a question about babys first deposit?

I know a few of you mums have informed us first timers that the first poo will be like tar and difficult to get off. So what do you recommend?
the list on the first page says to use vaseline. I wondered if baby oil would do the job too? (i have gallons of the stuff)
Do I smear it onto babys bum when he first enters the world. How long will it take for the first one to come? I'm wondering if I'll have time/remember before he decides to empty himself.

I'm imaging myself delivering the placenta while telling OH to slap the baby oil on :)

    any advice/tips??

    Hello All,

Firstly congrats ote wesley is gorgeous!!!!

and gl to flower and giz hopefully your both having mummy cuddles.

sharkey - I told mw about my gbs at the appt but she said not to worry about it. I did aa lot of research too because I wasnt sure but mine came up in a smear about 18 months ago and the general concensous (sp) is that I prob havent got it anymore.

Most women have GBS at some point in their lives (like I may have it today but not tomorrow) and they did used to do a lot of injections etc but they dont do it anymore because it didnt prove to make any real difference.

might mention it again to mw although tbh after the research i did Im not too bothered about it.

I survived the weekend but I am worn out.

Might not be on much today but hope your all ok

Gutted for Amanda Holden truly heartfelt thoughts with her and her oh.
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

Dusty, my experience of the first poo was this: DH did the skin to skin after the birth as I wasn't able to do it, and as one of the staff collected baby back off him, baby did his first poo all down her! Literally minutes after being born, so I never had to deal with a sticky poo. I didn't realise first poo's were 'sticky' until I read about it on here this time round, it's not something that was ever pointed out to me before by friends that had babies already, so maybe not something that will definitely happen.

So I wouldn't worry too much about preparing baby's bottom for it, it may not need it.

I never put anything on any of my 3's bums. The poo's were like tar, but i just used wipes at home (i was out within 6 hours). I must have used cotton wool and water for dd1 tho, as i did stay overnight with her. Just takes a little more wiping than normal.
I'd say, if you have time when you are dressing baby and he/she hasn't already done 1st poo, then chuck some vaseline or oil on, but otherwise don't worry too much. I'm going to take a sample pack of wipes into hospital with me, just in case.
