My partner's still not heard by phone call or post. He's only got his registered blind registration card. He's going to an eye clinic at the hospital on the 24th to get a CVI done as he doesn't have any paperwork which shows any of his visual acuity etc., so it would probably be best to receive a call afterwards (or he'll be calling them in March).
I wonder why you haven't heard, it says anyone who gets LRM at the moment on the grounds of eyesight problems will be contacted. What does your surname start with? I'm B so think that's why I was contacted early Dec but I only sent form back last week. The day I had my Beautiful son is the day everything came together for me. For someone so small he done so much and made me complete.0 -
celbelle..... i just looked it up and it seems similar in some ways to the condition i have, thoyour partner may have been born with less sight.
how much can he see?
' Forms of RP and related diseases include Usher syndrome, Leber’s congenital amaurosis, rod-cone disease, Bardet-Biedl syndrome, and Refsum disease, among others.'0 -
I don't have a clue what new changes are, can someone please tell me and not use abbreviations as not keeping up with what they mean? Thanks x0

Basically if you meet the following then from April you will be able to claim the following
To be considered for the higher rate, you must be:
under 65 on 11 April 2011
and registered or certified as severely sight impaired (blind)
and match the requirements for visual acuity and visual field (more on this below).
Visual acuity is the measurement of your central vision and how well you can see detail. It is assessed using an eye test chart called the Snellen scale. Your visual field is what you can see around you; this is also called your peripheral vision.
If your visual acuity is:
less than 3/60, meaning you only can read the top line of an eye test chart from 3 metres away, you will qualify for the higher rate
more than 3/60 but less than 6/60, meaning you can only read the top line of the eye test chart from 6 metres away, your visual field will need to be considered as well.
If your visual acuity falls into the second category, then you will only qualify if you also have both:
a complete loss of your peripheral vision
and severely restricted central vision ("tunnel vision"), meaning no more than 10 degrees in diameter.
If your visual acuity is better than 6/60 you will not qualify, for example if your acuity is 6/36 or 6/18.
What if my sight cannot be measured?
If your sight is too poor to be measured in this way, for example if you can only count fingers or you only have light and dark perception, you will qualify.
You will need to have consultant reports etc to be able to prove any of the above0 -

When he was last tested they told him he was 1/60 in one eye and 2/60 in the other. We did a little homemade test the other day with a printed off Snellen Chart (not clinic conditions I know) but he could only see the top letter at 80cms away in one eye and 120cms away in the other. He can't see people's faces unless he is 2 inches away or the colour of their clothes (no chance of making out any designs or prints on them) unless they are standing right next to him and that would be a struggle. It's even worse at night as well.0 -

He's a B too. We can't understand either. He's had letters at our address from the DLA so we know they have the correct one.0 -

the way they have brought in the new rules means very few people will benefit most blind people to start with are over 65 and many of people with very bad eye sight can still see the top line
using the stats on RNIB web site and the ONS stats I bet less than 10,000 will get in on paper alone from what you have posted IMO you could apply and if turned down I think you would get it on appeal of course with the sight you have posted you would not risk your lower mobility as you would need help outside, but the problem comes if your on middle rate care when looking at your claim agaim the midddle rate is at risk ... you would again have no problem getting the lower rate care as you could not pass the meal test
and last oo all even if you got higher mobility middle care, its going to be looked at again in 2014 ish when PIP comesIn London, you're never more than 20 feet away from someone telling you you're never more than 20 feet from a rat .0 -

That depends on the person.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked
