We go on Sunday, and if the FCO have not changed their stance we will be on the plane.
hi - friends of ours are travelling there soon but are having trouble finding a realistically price travel insurance for themselves. They are saying if civil unrest spreads to the resorts they are not covered. any advise please?0 -
Just come back and there are no problems at all. Had a great time and the people deserve better from there government.
Saying this things can change quickly. If I had booked I would go but would not make a new booking until it had settled down.0 -
Check Tripadvisor, in particular this thread: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g297555-i9225-k4207042-Calling_anyone_just_returned-Sharm_El_Sheikh_South_Sinai_Red_Sea_and_Sinai.html
I think post 41 says it all.
BTW, in my opinion good news doesn't sell papers so the media has concentrated on the big stuff in the capital. Luxor has been placed on the no go list without any real news coverage to back it up.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I got back from Sharm last night, and I agree with the post highlighted int he previous post.
as far as i could tell, things were running as normal.

I'd still go, it's 8 hours away.
It's like cancelling a holiday in Northumberland because of riots in London and Manchester.
The only thing that would change my mind is if Mubarak decides to see out his reign at his preferred palace in Sharm and regime change isn't too swift0 -
Thanks usefull info from the horses mouth on there0

If already booked I'd hang on to see how things pan out. If not already booked I'd give it a wide berth for a month then check the situation.
Was it Sharm that President Mubarak (sp?) was reported to be hiding or going to be hiding? Do a google and see what you can find out.0 -
Go, but don't come back and whinge if you have to be flown back two days into your holiday0

i got back on monday- the only trouble in sharm itself when i was there was in naama bay, they pushed a statue of president over and were shouting at tourists that they are liars etc (think that may have been because of the americans but not sure..)
also the banks were all closed down and lots of militry presence about, you could see some protesters being carted about in vans.
if i didnt know what was going on then in all honesty if i had stayed around hotel and the beach front i would have felt safe, outside the sharm area is a bit more edgy.
i cancelled my cairo trip but did go to dahab, mount sinai and neweiba and was ok, I did write a blog for Very about it, personally i enjoyed getting out of sharm more than being in it---mainly as the men re all too over the top, oddly the more i covered up the worse it was. i dont mind a bit of banter but when its in your own hotel you cant escape it:(***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0
