Even Egytians are leaving Egypt as fast as they can. Does that not tell people something?

Where do people think the food and water in the Red sea resorts comes from? Here's a clue - Cairo !

I think Cairo itself is suffering from food-shortages.

It's got an airport, so can get whatever they need from elsewhere.
If Sharm was called The Republic of Southern Sinai then we wouldn't be having this discussion.

But it isn't an independent republic, if forms part of the Egyptian economy.

Egypt relies to quite and extend on tourism. If protesters don't det what they want it's quite logical that they will hold the government to ransom by attacking tourism. It's been done before in Egypt, in the days before they had a nice little tourist haven to aim a direct hit at, so what makes Sharm so special that they wouldn't do that now?

Not all of it, a lot comes in via the airport.

I must confess, I've never had the desire to stay in a country where my hotel needed (usually armed) guards patrolling the perimeter. To me that wouldn't be much of a holiday. Obviously a lot of people go to Egypt and have a great time. I personally saw enough when I watched "An idiot abroad".

I would prefer to go to the Canary islands, Minorca or somewhere similar. Hope you have a good holiday OP whereever you go...

We go on Sunday, and if the FCO have not changed their stance we will be on the plane.
