I am glad I don't have to rely on you if I was ever in a fix with an employer.

Where do you think things like harassment, bullying and victimisation start? They start with things just like this. They start off with being left out of company events, then it's the Christmas party, then its promotions and pay rises and all of a sudden, it's first in line for redundancies.

Oh good grief grow up !!!

Must admit if they are planning a team building day it makes sense to leave those with entitlement issues and the whiners behind but this is ONE DAY-not the string of events you have obviously experienced first hand. You're either personalizing this too much or are just a drama queen !

It's a day of sitting in a conference room with people you probably don't choose to spend time with outside of work listening to management drone on and then a few activities after a meal. In the big picture it isn't a huge deal !

I wonder if they have cleared his with HMRC, try giving them a call and ask if this would be taxable, say there is this non work related event not open to all employees.

It takes a brave person to dob in all their colleagues for more tax! But if HMRC would charge, it is a good one to drop into conversation ....

On a big forum like this you never know who is reading........ Wouldn't be beyond of the realms of impossibility that if the OP's OH did this-it'd be very easy to work out who did it as it could only be one of twelve and some could be eliminated on grounds of sex or singledom !

There's enough info about this event and the company on the thread to make it easy to recognise by other employees.

I think people here are making much too light of this.

If I was the OP's partner I would feel totally let down by my employer here. To isolate 12 people out of a whole company is terrible and if it was me I would definitely feel I was being punished.

There seems to be an issue surrounding how these 12 "random" employees were chosen. This being done in secret seems to be a big problem and the OP stated that his partner clearly doesn't believe this was done at random.
In a company of 480 people they could easily have found 12 volunteers to stay. Why they didn't ask for volunteers is crazy.

And to the people saying this is a team building day stuck in a boardroom, the OP clearly stated this was a pamper day in a hotel and is definitely "extra-curricular."

I think you should ask the other 11 people if they have a problem with how this was handled too. This is supposed to be a treat for good performance for the whole company. What does it say to those 12 being left behind if they aren't being rewarded? Their work isn't up to scratch?

Or perhaps they won't see it that way, if they have isolated the troublemakers to miss the jolly!
Which confirms the presumption of victimisation and harassment.

What a HUGE assumption! There are many reasons for having a run in with management, and in view of the entirely dreadful management skills this company is displaying it might well be down to one complete plonker who has been promoted way beyond his abilities!

Dear Lord, it does sound as if some expect all employees to be servile sycophants and not human beings at all.

I bet you don't even see the irony in that statement.;)

A decent manager (or even a halfway decent one) would be capable of managing those people, not excluding them. Those that cannot manage people need to look at their own skills (or lack of them) sometimes as well.

This contrast striked it home and ultimately they will lose her. Their loss.

Exactly, spot on! If you don't like your employer, make it your business to make sure they are not your employer for much longer!
