Denied going to company event - same as withholding bonus?

I would imagine there are very few people whose bonuses are guaranteed, to class this as something being withheld illegally it would have to have been written into her contract. IE. Attendance of staff jolly mentioned in her terms and conditions or offer letter.
It's unlucky that she's been chosen to stay behind. She may suspect it's more than that but as there is nothing she can do the best thing to do is attend work on that day, cover for everyone in an extremely professional manner and prove that whatever her suspected reasons for being left out are unfounded.0 -
Agreed. the draw should have been public and random then no one would have any qualms about it.
Typical sly management ploy to isolate certain workers.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
They probably did departmental 'lots' to ensure that there was the correct cover, meaning some department workers would have had a better chance of attending than others, but needs must.
Complaining just sounds like sour grapes, and a sure fire way to encourage the company not to consider this kind of reward again if a nice gesture turns into a biatchfest."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
It's not an annual event. Just a one off blow out. And the people who didn't go were supposedly selected by random draw.
Random draw = who's least popular at that second in time.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

If the OP's OH had been selected to go, I suspect this thread wouldn't exist. Fact remains someone needed to stay behind, she was chosen. Unlucky. Get over it. Move on etc etc
I agree nothing to be done, and I don't know that it wasn't random, but hiding it and saying this after the fact makes it more suspicious.
Like someone else said it is just tough and you will never change it, but I suspect the person feels aggrieved because of the lack of transparency..0 -
How many bosses are staying behind to look after the phones?
Can't they just redirect them to a mobile and have people take it in turns.
Do they operate 7 days a week and never close on a BH?0 -

Not if you need PC based databases/systems.
And; booze + company phones redirected to a mobile = ignored :rotfl:0 -
