Would you buy a coffin online ?

I've also included this in the starting post.
As an addition and before all the FD's get whiff of this thread (and sabotage it) I thought I'd post the results of the poll as seen at 100 votes:
Yes = 69%
No = 10%
Maybe = 21%
So there is nothing scientific here and by the very nature of this forum people are here to save money, this may not reflect the nation as a whole, but in these ever difficult times I would wage a bet that the majority of the public would be grateful for more affordable and transparent funeral arrangements (and pricing).
Thank you to everyone for joining in and making my first post on MSE enjoyable. You really are a cool community :-)0 -
I don't think you should be able to buy any type of coffin, just hire one. They are expensive and either get burnt or buried so no one ever sees them again. If you hired one, once you have gone through the curtain you can be lifted out of the coffin ready to go in the furnace and the coffin given a quick clean ready for the next 'customer' back in the Coffin Hire Shop. Burial might need a different approach as you don't really want to lower a hired coffin into the grave as it might get scratched. You could have the coffin over the grave and then a lever is pulled and the bottom opens and the body drops (with a thud) into the grave.0

Your Poll has been very helpful to me, it shows that there is demand for coffins to be sold online, but until those people who said they would buy this way start doing so i doubt the change with happen soon0 -

Without going into the logistics of it, its not as simple as lifting someone out and giving it a quick clean, the majority of the population would not be happy that a deceased relative was going into a coffin that someone else had used.
If we have a family change their minds about choice of coffin after a deceased relative has been placed into the coffin ( which does sometimes happen) then the original coffin is not used again.
As i said previously, if anyone wants any information on any aspect of coffins/funeral then i will be more than happy to try answer your question.0 -

I don't think it does. It simply shows that some members of MSE would like to buy a coffin online at this point in time, which can't be extrapolated with any level of siginificance to the whole population to assess either current or potential demand......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Very interesting phone in. Exactly what has been echoed here in the forum; huge variances in costs around the country from FD to FD.
One caller was charged £240 for a cardboard box.... crazy !0
