mmm... £59? How dreadful, shocking indeed. I'm sure you'd much rather pay 60% more at £94??

Be grateful for your price - it's small beer :D

    Oh, welcome to the forum...
  • my girlfriend would really be annoyed if I took it out!

Get the G/F to pay for the gas.

Sorted, glad to have been of help

Ironic comment when I read your signature! :)
  • here in Flintshire 47kg is £63.50 the last one I bought about 3 weeks ago was £50 the last bottle lasted about a week found out I had a gas leak on the regulator :(
  • Hi all,
I found this thread searching for prices for propane because I haven't bought any for over 2 years, and here's why.
I bought my house 11 years ago, moving from a town to a village, I had no idea about propane bottles used for heating and when I asked how much the house used for heating the owner replied "not much".
Moved in and soon found 3 bottles lasted 2 to 3 weeks at £26 each, ouch (house I left used £25month mains gas) and the house wasn't that warm either.
It was't long before the Calor cartel increased prices by the month even though it's a by-product of oil refinery process, so this is when I ripped the gas fire out and fitted a wood burner which fired like mad through the winter at £100 a month in coal, open stairs meant the bedrooms were ok too, electric blower in the bathroom.
I still used gas for hot water at 1 bottle a month.
Just over two years ago when the bottle were costing £48 each delivered (flogas), I though 'sod this' so I purchased two 24 tube thermal solar panels from ebay with controller and pump station for £900, a thermal store £1750 and a Stratford SEB20 back boiler stove £1100, connected them all together (pro DIYer) costing £300ish. used internet for advice and tips (Naviton).
So now one 47kg bottle last 13 months, coal cost £700 a year and electrics £20 a month less and the house is very warm and the sun gives me hot water for baths/shower in the summer using electric to top up when required.
So basically, although I laid out £4000 to sort it all out, what I used in gas pays for the coal, I'm £600 a year better off, not over a barrel anymore (but coal goes up 50p a bag a year) and I can burn wood too.
So I would recommend looking at changing if you can.
Totally agree with the reason for this thread starting and good luck!

Well done mate, wish I could afford to screw the 'corporates' down too, great solution...

Just found this site while looking for prices for 15kg cylinders. One 15kg cylinder costs me £36 so I reckon at that price a 47kg would be around £110. I suggest, if possible, you buy the smaller ones as it appears to be cheaper - probably wrong 'cos my maths isn't great - also you may not be able to use them for some reason

Odd advice? You are right, if you can get 15kg=£36, so 1kg=36/15=£2.40

    Hence 47kg=2.40x47=£112.80

All prices so far quoted here for 47kg are far cheaper than £112, so why would you buy the smaller ones which work out more expensive?

47kg costs me around 55-57 pounds delivery is £1.50 per bottle, order 2 pay £3 even if on same journey! in winter it was costing me £350 a month to heat the bungalow so invested in a multi fuel stove, it has paid for itself within 12 months.
