How are people packaging the toiletries for Give and Make-up? My first thought was shoe boxes, but I only have a couple of spare boxes and secondly they dont fit that much in or weigh too much. Are you then wrapping the boxes, if so with what? I have never done this before except for the christmas shoe boxes which I covered with christmas paper.

Also how are people managing to weigh the boxes,
    :T

I had a box from an online order, bit bigger than a shoe box and some recycled bubble wrap and wrapped the box in plastic from a cut-up Lidl carrier bag!!. I didn't pretty it up, because I assume (hope) everything will be checked before being distributed. I weighed mine on my kitchen scales. Forgot to put "FAO Ailsa Whatever-her-name-was" on the label though :o Just put in what I thought would be most useful to keep the weight under 2kg. You could send 2 separate parcels.

Also how are people managing to weigh the boxes, dont know if its my scales but when I weighed the first box it was 2.4kg so I tried taking a couple of items out and then my scales would not give out a reading, only way I could find around it was to weigh myself and then hold the box - felt a bit like packing for holiday and weighing myself holding a suitcase :D

I have emailed them to see if I can drop off instead of post, as I have 2 carrier bags full and struggling to pack, hopefully I will hear back from them soon.

Thanks for the label link Mccullouch :T

My daughters bought some new boots last week, so I nabbed one of the boxes as it was one of the bigger ones. I plan to just tape it up with parcel tape and stick the label on with sellotape.

I've got digital kitchen scales (comes in very handy for ebay :D) so I've used that. I put a big bowl on the scales first, because otherwise I cant see what the display says when there's a big parcel on it!

UU - Timotei shampoo and conditioner. These were actually my daughter's but I got fed up of them hanging around half empty, so decided to help them on their way. WIBA? Only if on special offer - its nothing special.

The woman who runs Give and Make Up has contacts at local refuges across the country, I believe. I know we have a couple locally, so I will contact her sometime to find out what they might appreciate.
Thank you to everyone who asked for a label - keep asking if you haven't yet. I forgot to mention (senior moment) that the boxes should have FAO Ailsa Illingworth on them - but I'm sure they will work out what's what when they open them.
Has anyone ever used BeautyBay? I hesitate to say it, but they don't look cheap - have never heard of most of the brands on there - or recognise them as being very upper end of the market.

Took me ages to find it!!!!!!!! Thanks Adilade - you beat me to it :D

Well went into B**ts at the weekend foe some eye-makeup remover - my No.7 one hasn't lasted very long BUT that was all I bought :j
I also had a Fish Pedicure  must admit my feet felt soooo soft afterwards :)

It is lovely isn't it - I have another gift voucher to use up in March - so looking forward to that.

I am so sorry to hear what is happpening Lyndseydee. Hope things improve for you soon. Now is the time to crack open those luxuery products and look after yourself.

 Welcome to all the newbies.

    Nice stash list Nitty :)

I have finally sorted out my box for Give and Make Up.

I have also passed on a label to my mum who has also filled a box. My dad was really ill for a while before he died and we used a lot of baby products with him. We had a huge stash of products after we died and mum wanted to rehome them. She is delighted to find such a good cause.

I love this thread and how it can really motivate you into helping out others as well.

Also in the spirit of full disclosure I am now reporting all spends for the month. I can say my total spend for February is £6.37. I only bought 2 items Mitchem roll on (I only had 1 roll on left in my stash) and Arnaka cream to help heal my black eye. So both necessary spends. Here's hoping I can continue this into March....

I'm going to bed now, having stayed up reaaaaaally late trying to fix my chuffing laptop which got virused at ebay. I thought I'd cracked it and got to the end, have deviated from instructions and now bu99ered it :(. Rerunning the software in the hope it repairs.

Thanks for the ideas re packing, but I had a very quick response to my email asking if I could drop off my items (so no longer have to worry about packing and keeping to the 2kg limit:D) I have been told yes I can and Caroline is passing my contact details to Ailsa. Just in case anyone else lives nearby this is an option.

Now to see if anything else to add :D Is anyone else putting in feminine hygiene items? I stocked up a few years ago with Tesco H&B when both DD and myself used them and then my daughter moved on to other things and I no longer need them (hopefully) so I was wondering what I could do with them - glad to find a worthwhile home for them and to get some more space back.

I am going to ask if anyone else at work has any spares to donate as well while I am going, I am sure they will.
