yesterday i rang up orange, my 12month mark is up on the 4th of december.
I told them i wasn't happy with my current tariff and that I was considering moving to 3.
They quickly transfered me to a lovely young lady who agreed to let me have 500xnetwork mins for 25pound a month and 30 free texts for the first 3months, plus an upgraded handset!
I was paying 30pound line rental for 200xnetwork mins.... averaging bills of 40-50pound a month.
cheers for the advice martin!

Hi,
Just of the phone 2 T-mobile, i just noticed that it's not January that my contract expires, it's April!!!!
Anyway, i asked what would happen if i were to cancel the contract and he said i would have to pay £47!!!
I told him i'd come back 2 him.
I then phoned e2save as this is who i took the t-mobile contract out with, again i asked her what i'd have 2 pay to cancel the contract and she quoted me around £80!!
Anyway i can get round this or is it a case of hanging on till April?0 -
Gario,
you could try what I did before was tell o2 that your moving to an area that has no coverage by them and you can't see the point of having a mobile phone that doesn't work there as technically they can't hold you to their contract then if they don't provide cover and what you want to ask for is your PAC code which allow you to take your number to another operator.
P.S. Did the gripe with Orange about tariffs and services and after I said I was leaving to go to someone else from being with them over 6 years and spending several hundred a month with them on 2-3 handsets, they gave me a 3 tariff Select 750, and credits for 50% of my last bill and also £150 towards new handset accessories, so from a bill which was normally around 500 it was -38 last month!! Pretty pleased actually.

Big Cheshire Cat smiles ..... Here's Why ....
I've read all the stories here of people trapped within their Yearly mobile contract. I thought you know what that's me !! .. Time to take action.
So, my story & here's the action I took.
I have been with O2 for a number of years (probably 10) I have a 12 monthly contract with them. I'm on the o2-400 tariff .... 400 free x network anytime for £45pm + 50 free text. + 200 bolt-on text for £9 pm My monthly bills have been hitting the £100 mark each month for the last 3 months. I called 402 (02 Customer services) yesterday free from my handet. Now my current contract expires in mid April 2005, which can of course be discussed 1 month prior to yearly expiry. I explained my bills were too high & I wanted a deal. They said 'sorry, can help' If you wish to terminate it will cost £202.50 to do so. (i.e. 4.5 months left x £45). Talk about cornering you. (Yes I know it's in the terms, but isn't everything in life negotiable!) End of conversation with that person .... Then I sat down & read through all the discussion here & decided not to give up & try again. This time I asked for my PAC code to be issued and an invoice for termination. Armed with that I asked for the 'retentions' department. I explained my situation all over again stating that I would go elsewhere. I WANTED A DEAL & I WAS GOING TO GET IT ! So after a lot of persistance here's what I secured: An INCREASE FROM 400 free minutes to 750 ! A DECREASE of line rental from £45 to £35 + 100 texts FREE + 20% OFF any call charges that I incurr with the monthly billing cycle.
If you look at that over a year:
Saving of £120 off Line Rental
350 x 12 = 4200 FREE ( Anytime X NETWORK) @10p min average = £420
1200 FREE TEXTS = £144
[glow=red,2,300]TOTAL = £684 !!! for 1 YEAR[/glow]
[glow=red,2,300]Saving within my current contract period equates too £257[/glow]
My contact point @ 02 was a very helpful chap: CHRIS CAMPBELL (Extn. 71281)
Give it a go people .... DON'T ASK DON'T GET ..... DON'T DESPAIR, THE DISCOUNT IS ALWAYS THERE !!!Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
I would like to see how much this tread has saved us all in a year. £££££££££££££
Me only £50 per year but i get 300 more Xnet min and have a new 6230 for free.
Come to think of it how much do you think the whole site as saved us all.

As I use my orange phone only a little per month (mainly incoming calls), a few years ago I managed to switch to OVP Virgin - £0 per month line rental, 15 p/minute for first 5 minutes, 5 p/minute from then on. My bill averages about £3 per month (not one for the companies, including Orange, to fight over!). I notice that Orange do not do this anymore (strange as they promise to price match all advertised tariffs, but then specifically exclude Virgin and 3?!). I have had the number for 8 years now and therefore don't wish to lose it.
Last year I invested in a new phone - well, when I say invested, I managed to get a near free phone and free line rental (cashback) - as this one was on T-Mobile 750, I ended up carrying both sims around for a year. That finished in April. Now I see the offers again for 12 months free (cashback) from companies such as onestopphoneshop I think it is time to go in for another phone (my wife's phone is close to dying and this is a good investment for a new phone). I have "permission" ::) to get a new phone and she will have my current phone (Siemens A50 - still a nice phone).
Not sure whether to keep my existing number on OVP Virgin as I know I will never be able to get that deal again, or have it transferred to the new phone (also likely to be on Orange anyway). If, after 12 months, I want to get rid of the monthly line rental (I don't see the point in paying for something when I don't need to!) then is there somewhere I can transfer my number back to that will be the equivalent of OVP Virgin (no line rental, no minimum spend each month, reasonably price on calls). Also, if I want to transfer my existing number to the new Orange phone, do I do that at sign up and as it is orange to orange, is it straight forward?
Many thanks

Having read Martins advice, I contacted Orange to try to get a better deal. I was out of contract and on Orange Talk 400 (Cost around £45 per month).
Firstly, Orange offered me 500 anytime/any network minutes for £25 inc vat) almost straightaway if I upgraded my phone. This was no problem as I have a Nokia 6310i which is now obsolete. I asked for a Motorola V3 which is the latest model at which point Orange became difficult and tried justabout everything to put me off e.g. These phones are not very good, there is no stock and it might be 20years before they become available, why don't I take a 6310i etc!
I was also told that I would have to pay the full cost of the upgrade which was £140+.
I stuck it out, asked for my name to go on the list and said I was prepared to wait. I also called every week to push for my new tariff/phone.
This morning after 3 weeks, I was told the phone was now in stock and I could have the originally agreed tariff. The cost of the phone was reduced to £45 after i told them I had an upgrade voucher from the orange shop which would give me £50 off the price in the Orange shop. I was given a discount even though they told me that they couldn't accept an Orange shop voucher as the shop can't offer the tariff.
They also threw in 30 text messages a month for 3 months for free.
I look forward to recieving my new phone and tariff tomorrow
My advice is persevere even if they try to put you off!
Good luck0 -
Contract expires at the end of the year.
Asked for my PAC number then phoned back a week later
They switched me from £25 for 120 x-net mins a month
to 500 x-net mins for £25 a month (the 3 deal) without too much hassle..also 30 free texts for 3 months...
Also upgraded to Nokia 6230 for free
Be nice to them not too knowledgeable..and get that deal

Hi-I was on an O2 'anytime 200' contract (think it was £25/PCM)-out of contract on 6 Dec-phoned O2 (ask for the CRT department) & got 500 x-network mins for £25 (!) after saying that 3 had the talktime 500 for £25!
And a nice new phone! I've regularly been going over minutes so this was a bonus!
