Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Mon 31st Jan. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

I made roast beef for lunch yesterday, hubby enjoyed it so much he wants the same tonight so that's what I'll do, then I shall make meals out of the rest of the beef & freeze them
Packups made, washing drying on the maiden, fish fed, breakfast eaten & hubby's been dropped at the station.
Off to work in a sec, no doubt it will be busy, which I prefer, it makes the day go quicker.
DD, who had a baby on Saturday posted this on her facebook page, I've had visits from 2 sets of grandparents, driven to Newbury and back, bleached the common contact surfaces to avoid recurrence of sicky bug, fitted in 4 breast feeds, had a bath and hosted a 3 year olds birthday party AND I only gave birth 23hours ago!! BEDTIME x x x.
    She must be mad, lol.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Hi everyone

I haven't posted on here for a while despite my good intentions. We've been so busy on the house that the time has just run away from me, and the dark mornings here don't help. Because of the hour's time difference, it's still dark here until about 8.30 - it's one of the things I just can't get used to and it makes the day get going so much later.

I hope you are all well?

Redruby - hope the Dr's visit goes well today.

Essex Girl - January is the worst month, isn't it? I shall be so glad to see the back of it, especially as we are coming back to the UK in March for a visit to meet our new grandchild who is due on the 20th. As soon as we are in February (tomorrow, yay!), I can tell myself our visit is just next month!

My BIL is doing really well at the moment. From being desperately ill just a few weeks ago, his jaundice levels have come right down and he's on new meds while they decide when to start the chemo. He is still very underweight and weak but he's eating (all fat-free which he's finding hard), and sleeping well, and he says he doesn't even feel ill. Whatever the outcome, at least he's feeling as good as he can right now, and they are all just making the most of every day.

We are on the last bit of the house renovation, bar a mass painting session which we can't do until we've brought some paint back from the UK. The paint here is very expensive and really poor quality, so we've decided we'd rather wait to buy some decent stuff.

Dinner tonight is chilli-burgers from our local farm, along with some HM chips and eggs (also from the farm - for free and free-range and they are delicious).

Now that the house is almost finished I can do 'proper' housew**k - not sure that's a good thing, but it's lovely not to be living in a dustbowl!

It's been freezing cold here and even tried to snow on Friday - luckily, it didn't come to much. The birds here are ravenous at the moment and are devouring all the food I put out for them, and I'm still having to bang the ice of their water every morning. I think we'll all be glad when spring starts. Having said that, we have a hazelnut tree just outside our house and it's covered in catkins, so spring can't be far away, surely?

Anyway, I hope you all have a good day and I'll try harder to keep up to date with you all.

    Good morning all,
Had a wonderful familly weekend. Just love it when we are all together and it doesn't happen that often. Weather here is very, very cold. Roll on Spring.
Need to do a stock take of fridge and freezer and then work out the meal plans for the week.
HH hope you enjoy lots of cuddles with your new little darling. Just read your post. Your DD sounds like superwoman:)
Right! Off I go, wishing you all Happy Monday, Silver x

Thanks for the welcome yesterday, here and over on the fb - so lovely :D

Hope everyone with lack of sleep issues over the last few days managed a decent nights sleep! When my alarm went off this morning I thought it was broken cos it felt like I'd only just shut my eyes :( oh well onwards and upwards....
Can I join the forth bridge gang please? I seem to spend all my time cleaning/tidying and yet the house is never clean or tidy!
WM, TD and DW all emptied and refilled, lunches made, dinner decided (pork and rice thingy) so off to work shortly.

Hope everyone has a good day.

    Morning all

Now light here, cloudy but had a frost overnight. DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock.

Both boys up and had brekkie now getting ready for school, I just need to dry my hair and put my make up on. Full day at work today, so will be reasonably busy as end of the month, prefer it being busy as makes the day go quicker. Dinner tonight is fish, chips/jacket potato and beans/veg - nice quick and easy. Tonight hairdresser is coming to colour my hair, and cut DH and both boys' hair. Tomorrow night DS1 has Cadets so start of this week is going to fly by and we'll be at Wednesday before we know it.

Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Need to sort washing out but it will have to wait till i get home.

Good Morning! DH took some friends down to Gatwick - left here at 4.30am! And he walked back in at 7.45am!! Incredibly good going for a 150 mile round trip! Just shows that this is the only time in the day when using the Dartford Crossing isn't a long queue in a bottleneck!
I went back to bed but couldn't sleep, so came back down at 5.30am. Bread is half way baked already, WM done and all in TD - and.... drum roll please!...I am sitting here having prepared all my seville oranges for the first batch of marmalade! The chopped peel etc is slowly reducing in the pressure cooker as I type! How OS am I today - and it's still not quite 8am!
Redruby - would be good to get some answers re your Dad today, fingers crossed.
Hester - Your daughter obviously has inherited your high energy levels - what a woman! Love the pics, by the way.
OK, hope to be back later on. Meanwhile, take care - and try to enjoy Monday!
