Even if we don't climb enough to get to the summit of Everest I'm sure it's enough to reach the summit of other mountains - Kilimanjaro is 9173ft from base camp to summit.

Everest virtual expedition members so far

If people post their stair heights (and if you're doing more than 1 stair case ie work & home let me know both heights and which is which) before we all start off. Then each day tell me how many times you've climbed your stairs I'll be able to keep track of everyone and tell you which camp you've reached on the climb.

Dory I doubt you'll be last - I have no stairs at home so will have to do it at work - and I've got some time off work too so it will be a challenge to get it all into March!

There is a really high set of steps by my office but have no idea how high they are :(

If anyone feels this this challenge is too much for them individually but still wants to join in I don't mind if you want to create a team with a few others to do a team total - let me know who you've joined up with and I'll add the team to the chart.

Just measured mine, and they're 91inches, so about 7ft. 6 inches. Which means, that's an average of about 50/51 times a day. Hope i stick to it lol.

I was going off this diagram that i found on a mountaineering site. i was planning to do my "virtual"climb from the base camp (17700') to the summit (29028') which makes a total of 11328'

Got to say that I didnt expect even one other person to join me in this madball idea, so now with a few other people all saying they're going to have a go,well I'm quite amazed and really pleased :-)
...but as March 1st creeps ever closer, I'm already beginning to have my doubts !!!!

so if anybody else wants to join in, well the more the merrier, all you need is a tape measure and something to climb - a flight of stairs, a step machine, a ladder, anything will do - just add up how many feet youve climbed and when you get to 11328, then bingo, you've done it , simple as that! Its completely your choice whether like me, you race to the top in the shortest time or whether you pace it out over the month... either way i bet you'll have thighs like tree trunks when you get there!
Meet you all up there at the summit :-)

    ----
lolly - if you cant use pennies to keep count then what about paperclips, or nuts and bolts, or pebbles... i do suggest that you find some way of keeping track though: during my first attempt at doing this in January, I just tried to keep track in my head but after a while you start to doubt where the count is up to and the numbers sort of start to play tricks with your mind, if you know what i mean :-)

Love the diagram! I'll race you to the top Puds, although I think it may take the entire month anyway, lol!

Yes, I definitely need a way to keep track as I'm easily confused! I'm going to use fred's suggestion of the notepad and pen at the top of the stairs.

Thanks for the chart Fred, it looks AMAZING!:T

I'm actually quite excited about starting this now :j - roll on March!!!

Maybe you could use something as a step so you can do some at home? Like those step boards they use in aerobics classes?

Yes I think that's a good idea Lolly, I think I can pile up some old study books to a height as they're nice and big to step onto.

I think I'm going to invest in a ball of wool to measure steps too.

you only need to measure one step, then count the number of steps and multiply :) I think the 'step' idea is a great one, might be able to do those whilst watching the telly!!
