"We know that carbs create a physical addiction as the pleasure centre of the brain releases a reward hormone for eating them and that high levels of carbs affect the blood stream and can cause wildly fluctuating insulin / glucose levels which again can lead to rabid carb cravings"
If we didn't eat carbs back in the day, how would our brains know to deliver a reward hormone after we've eaten them?
it does it for 3 food groups, fat, salt and sugar, the foods that would have been rare or given us the most energy, something we needed as our brains grew to the exceptional proportion it is now, almost 7 times the ratio of an elephant and 3.5 times that of the other great apes, our brain uses the equivalent of a 20w light bulb! In terms of size to body mass and therefore energy used.

and we did eat carbs when they where available, just not on the massive quantity's available now or as highly refined as they are now, a reduced carb diet is not a nil carb diet, although we can survive on zero carbs and there are tribes that have done so.0 -

Well done on completing the walking mission Puddings and sweetcheeks :T:T:T
Ok you have a choice for next months team challenge:
Men v Women
or
Slimming World v Weight Watchers v other plans v DIY healthy eating & more exercise
Let me know your choices and the challenge picked will be next month - if you choose the second choice and are on a plan that is not WW or SW please post which plan you're doing - if there's enough on a plan I'll include it as a seperate team.0 -
Ooo Fred thats a tough one.
I would vote for the slimming plan option, that way we get a good mix of both sexes.
What does everyone else think?0 -

Something we haven't been talking about that we should and will impact your ability to stick to a diet or healthy eating plan - Sleep. Your body naturally produces an appetite suppressing hormone called Leptin. When you don't get enough sleep, you produce less of this hormone and more of another called ghrelin. So often when people are craving sweet treats it's not because you are actually hungry but because you aren't get enough sleep.
So make sure you tuck up nice and early in bed!0 -
I find that if I'm tired my willpower if affected - not just for sweet things so there is something in this.
However if I exercise (even if tired) it counter acts this and makes my will power stronger.0 -
