Eric - Sorry you are still not feeling very well I hope you get to the bottom of the problem soon

    Thank you,

Well I am tripple baffled now, got my liver function tests back after i was taken off Multaq because of the warning put out about it causing liver failure and people dying or needing transplants. It seamed like a probably cause for me going grey, the cold sweats and yellowing of the eyes and then this

Near perfect results, just like all my other many blood tests ....

    Albumin 45 (35-50)
    T Bilirubin 10 (0-22)
    AST 27 (10-37)
    Alk. Phos. 75 (34-104)

    http://www.patient.co.uk/health/Blood-Test-Liver-Function-Tests.htm

So even more baffles as to why I feel so bad apart from having bradycadia, even this morning my resting HR is 43 ...
  • Must report it, although toooo late for this week's results:

    71.9 kg or 11 st 4.5 lbs.

I need to be on the England team, Fred!

I'm soooo pleased about getting below the 72 kg mark, first time in years and years.

Eric, you mention the changes over the last 40-50 years. Don't forget that we were all much, much more active back then, just as a matter of course. We didn't go around with phones glued to our ears. In the early 60s making a phone call meant, for me, loading 2 toddlers into a push-chair and walking half a mile to the village phone box.

Evolution would suggest that we are meant to be much more active and mobile, not in terms of going to the gym, but just in general activity on a normal day to day basis.

well done puds, margaretclare, alliwant and all the other losers this week! :T

Frogletina dont let that 1lb get you down it's only 1lb and will be fof again sooner than you think!
Betty - I hope you manage to sort your head out soon, I am sure you can see where you are going wrong. And do I need to still pester you about Davina ?? I think I am going to dust her off tomorrow myself :D

thanks. I am addressing my bad habits and getting my head round it - already feeling more confident that I can alter my thinking as well as my behaviour (the psychology graduate inside me is enjoying the challenge anyway!)

I did Davina once this week already and went to the gym yesterday (gotta get my money's worth, now the ice and snow has gone and the sun's coming out I have no excuse not to leave the house! lol) I'll do Davina tomorrow too! I do enjoy it but I like to mix it up a bit so I have a few different DVDs now to keep me interested!

    Evening All,

Betty, I hope you settle into a way of eating that suits you and your lifestyle better. I think just adopting healthy eating principles, exercising more, and enjoying doing so is key. You're right that SW gives us so many good eating habits anyway, and I'd say that the best way to adapt from that would be to keep an eye on your portion sizes initially. Maybe use a smaller dinner plate, which his what I'm doing this week to help things along. You already know what is good/bad for you, and what needs to be seen as an occasional treat. What exercise are you planning to incorporate, will it be a mixture?

Yes SW has taught me a lot about balanced meals (in particular, I am going to try to stick to the EE 1/3 veggie rule anyway) and their low fat/low cal cooking is ideal. I agree I have got smaller bowls and plates that I should use more to control portions.

I am planning on doing exercise 4 times a week (3 minimum depending on weekend plans) - so that could be a Davina DVD twice a week, a mid-week trip to the gym and a bike ride or long walk at the weekend, for example, or any combination of squash, gym, swimming, DVD, walking, etc.

Hope the cakes go well for the London exhibition! I am dreadful at making cakes they always sink and come out like rocks! but at least that means there are rarely cakes in the house for me to eat! hehe :rotfl:

fred just a query mine says 8lb loss this month but I lost 2lb this week and 9lb on the week my mum died from feb 3rd to feb 10th so that makes 11lb so far this month in the last two weeks, was wondering why it says 8lb?

My one seems to be wrong too. It should be 5lbs not 6lbs, as 2.1lbs loss last week, and then a 2.9lbs loss this week = 5lbs.

I have never said its just about carbs, there are many different factors involved.

As I have posted many times, underlying issues / demons have to be dealt with first, no one can sustain will power alone for more than a few weeks, especially me the master of yo-yo dieting, hell there are very few people that have yo-yo'd to the extremes I have over the last 15 years, even puds is a light weight by my standards :p.

I have also made reference to the mass over supply of food about and many times to the way the brains pleasure centre rewards for eating foods that are high fat/sugar/salt.

But time and time again I see people here and infact just about every where "coming of the wagon" and 99% of the time they have carbed binged when doing so, you just have to read up over the last few pages for some examples. The governments own figures show that 98% of diets fail after 2 years.

To me thou it just seams common sense to look at what we have changed over the last 40-50 years in our diet and whilst we are over eating more calories there has been a disproportional shift to the amount of carbs we eat, and we know what this does to insulin.

It just seams logical to me to reverse this trend and move our diet to something that is far more natural to us.

I think fat avoidance is also a big issue, we ate a high fat diet for 2.5-3 million years and the obsession with low fat dieting can cause all sorts of issues, such as depression, constipation and making you more prone to stress. Most ironically my cholesterol is at 4.3-4.8 now after moving over to a higher fat diet.

And this is the only time in my 15 years of being a blob and master yo-yo dieter that I am rarely hungry and I never have cravings of any kind, which overcomes my extremely weak willed nature and natural greed.

It is a vastly complex area, with many factors affecting it, but for me common sense says return to how we evolved to eat, well the best we can given the modern environment.

But as a woman, i want to eat more when im due on/on my period. Likewise i am more likely to want more sweeter things and that hasn't got anything to do with carbs!

There are of course many factors to gaining weight, but its mainly down to the fact that food is in our face more 24/7...i don't think there are many other factors to it. Not even carbs, just the fact we can get hold of food anywhere.....its not rationed and nothing is stopping me going down to the supermarket and picking up 10 bags of crisps.

The first week of this month (chart dated 2 Feb) you posted a 3lb gain which nets off against your 11lb loss in the following 2 weeks to give a Feb total of 8lb. :)

  • Sary - you were asking me about my capsule wardrobe. Obviously the personal shopper experience didn't add to that, but I had pretty much put my own together before that and just wanted a smart outfit for bails wedding next week (got it today at another shop, phew:D).
I think what you have in your capsule wardrobe is so going to depend on your life style and how often you think clothes need washing! I work part-time & don't go to posh functions more than once in a blue moon. I also don't think outer clothing needs washing after one wear, unless it's a very hot day/or I have been exercising. So what I have chosen would probably not suit someone else at all.

I'm loving having a capsule wardrobe so far - takes all the decision making out of the equation, lol. But I have no black and plenty of colour and everything blends with several other items. From now on, I want to be really choosy over what I buy - no random popping in to a shop and buying odd things that I never find anything to go with anything else. I now know exactly what I have got and what I need to replace/fill any gaps. I shouldn't need to go clothes shopping again until the warmer weather hits, and that will in part be down to having lost a stone since last summer plus any more I might lose before May.
One of the items I got rid of last weekend was a very nice outfit I had, when I was a size 18 - 20. It was so nice, i couldn't chuck it out before but I have finally realised, I am not going back to that weight again.

Thanks for the chart fred. Well done Puds for SOTW.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
