Well, I grew up in a time of rationing, when sweets were limited to 3 ounces a week, and because it was a very rural area, to get those 3 ounces weekly meant a 2 mile walk and back to a little shop in the next village. Ice-cream was unheard of, crisps didn't exist, chocolate only if it was included in the 3 ounces a week. So I am lucky. I haven't grown up with the mindset of 'gotta have treats'.

Many of my generation, however, wouldn't consider having a cuppa without a biscuit or three. They don't need those either, and I certainly don't. It gets easier to say 'no thanks' - the more you do it, with practice, it gets to be a habit.

Just made the decision to stop doing SW for a while.
I'm getting frustrated with the plan, and i've been thinking a lot about my lifestyle and i've decided to focus more on exercise and healthy eating in general...
I need to make big lifestyle changes and i need them to be of my own making.
SW is fine but I am struggling to incorporate it into my life and ultimately that'll be my downfall - this needs to be for life not just for the duration of a 'diet'

Fundamentally that's what I do - I honestly can't follow half of the conversations on here about the benefits of low-carb or this diet or that or eating Xg of fat - it all seems very complex to me.

I simply eat three square (based on healthy eating principles), don't snack in-between and make sure I get to the gym at least three times a week. I think at my heaviest I was 16 stone, whatever I am now, I'm fit and healthy.

Not necessarily complex, it's just what works for different people.

Personally, I don't like following any plans or diets, as it seems so temporary, rather than an actual lifestyle change. I'm a true believer than people's success come from themselves, mentally and physically. Plans maybe there as motivation and as a means to ensure that you stick to it, but i don't think they're necessary.

Calorie counting works for me and for lots of people. But it may not work for all. As long as what you're doing works and gives you results, that's what matters at the end of the day.

thanks for your input here guys.
I have tried calorie counting but again it meant eating strange food and feeling deprived. SW was better and very easy for me to understand, but it just isn't 'clicking' with my way of life. It's the kind of thing I can see myself going on and off of and that will be ineffective, I need my own 'plan' to stick to for life!!

I am going to plan my meals each day and, critically, going to exercise 3-4 times a week.

I know my body it responds well to exercise and badly to 'dieting' - love cooking from scratch using healthy ingredients, so it should not be too hard i just need to write down my downfalls and ensure I am equipped to deal with any cravings or feelings of 'giving up'

For instance, today I did 30 mins intesive exercise (Davina Pump programme) and had a banana and a pint of water.
then had porridge with skim milk and a tsp sugar and a pot of tea with a few splashes of semi skimmed

then had 2 small lunches instead of 1 big lunch (big meals make me lethargic!) so I had a slice of brown bread with an egg and aabout an hour later had a small jacket potato with half a tin of low sugar beans and 21g low fat cheddar (one thing SW has taught me is to measure my cheese portions!!)

Dinner will be HM carbonara with pasta, half a pot of single cream, bacon (no fat), mushrooms, 2 tbsp parmesan and a salad of mixed leaves, green beans and balsamic vinegar

the problem is after SW I have no idea of what is 'normal' eating or not! does the above look ok or is it too much??? I am always hungry and working from home makes it too easy to graze on rubbish all day - that's why I tend to have a few small meals rather than 3 big ones

    any advice?????

I feel the same as you princess, i don't follow a plan because then i'd have to do a plan for ever and i feel that life is too short to be counting calories and adding up points.

Betty: I hope youre new way of losing weight works for you :) I suppose its not bad what youre eating there betty..i would have eaten less at lunch to allow for the carbonara myself. Today i had cheerios, a banana for break, porridge, satsuma and a 2 finger kit kat for lunch (felt annoyed cos i didn't need that!) and then for dinner i've had a Korma. But then yesterday i had sort of the same but a stir fry for dinner. But thats life, cos sometimes i'm gunna eat something bad and tomorrow i probably wont. I just need to up the exercise levels!
