Part of me agrees with you on this, margaretclare, and the other part is swithering. Like the discussion earlier on about having that kind of food in the house for other members of the family, the swithering part doesn't see why everyone should go without the treats. I've decided that I'm not going to buy any more, and that anything my bf wants he can buy and put out of my sight and knowledge. He mainly buys it for his packed lunches and coffee breaks so he won't be eating it in front of me.
As for re-programming the brain, I agree that it is one of the most important things you can do. I am going to be using a combination of hypnotherapy (and EFT (tapping) for when cravings strike), similar to what Paul McKenna does. Hopefully that will cover it - if I do find and succumb to chocolate etc then I will be binning it, opening the packets and putting the contents into a really mucky bin that I won't be going back into!!!0 -

But if they are having them every day, as an expected part of lunch and snacks, then they are not 'treats' are they - they have become 'essentials'? (Sorry, not having a go, just extending an interesting topic).
When I was growing up, a small packet of crisp was a rare treat - a few times a year, or at a kid's birthday party. Now, many kids seems to automatically have them as an essential to packed lunch and yet they are laden with fat & salt and fairly addictive.
Efrieze - I guess I think the diet pills are a waste of money. If it was that easy...As for whether they can hurt - I don't know enough about them, but I know on aforum I belong too in connection with health issues, where some of us are on heavy duty meds, there are big warnings about assumptions that (non cooking)herbs are 'harmless'. And there are some I have to avoid because my liver wouldnt like it on the meds I am on.
Somethingsgot to give - 3 miles is a great start:T:T. Sometimes we all need to challenge ourselves as to what we could do if we tried. And starting off with small changes is very doable.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
I really need to start losing to get to stay the same for this week, that is how bad it is.
I didn't eat until late today and then probably ate too much. Forgot I had a hot chocolate earlier when I was out, and a friend ate some christmas cake that had been sitting in my tin happily, but because he left the icing, I ate that. Yet, earlier in the week I had happily thrown some away. I think it is a habit to hoover up leftovers. Also ate the remaining icecream in the fridge which had been there for ages and I didn't really want.
Getting rid of the unwanted food should not be a reason for me to eat it. I have habits like this I am trying to conquer. But I have stopped chocolate and fizzy drinks - and I am very careful in what I buy and bring into the house.

I have a question. Diet pills...what do you think?
I am controlling my eating and doing regular high intenisty exercise (zumba - I love it). I wondered what you thought about diet pills to be added into the mix to help things along. I have bought something from the chemist which says it is a traditional herbal remedy for the treatment of obesity made from bladderwrack (fucus vesiculosus). What do you think? A waste of time (and money), a cheat, unhealthy, or it's all in the mind and the other measures I am taking to lose weight will be the main reason for any losses.
My thinking is that it is not in place of the healthy way of life, but it might help things along which can't hurt......can it??? I have never taken any diet pills before as I think you ought to suffer your way down so that you don't go back up again (hasn't worked in the past though!!!)
Comments and opinions welcome.
magic bullets I am afraid, or clutching at straws rather than address the real issues. If you have underlying issues / external factors that are affecting your eating then these need to addressed or at least come to terms with before you can realistically lose weight long term. If your carb craving then a reduced carb diet should bring your insulin back under control after a couple of weeks and stop the binging behaviour.
in terms of the pills, anything you can buy legally unregulated will be extremely weak, you may get 50 extra cals of burn in extreme cases, just because something is natural does not make it safe, cyanide occurs naturally as does snake venom and sharks after all
the two licensed drugs for weight loss are pretty awefull as well imo, one stops you digesting fat with some nasty side effects but worst of all fat is healthy we ate it for millions of years and the fat making you fat myth has been debunked pretty extensively now. the other one accelerates the metabolism which is not good imo, you can get the same effect yourself by doing 30 mins of resistance training 2-3 times a week, with the only risk of maybe being a bit sore at the start.
eat healthy whole foods, take a little exercise and control your insulin, it really does work wonders

my heaviest, last summer, when i was something higher than 30stone
, i couldnt walk a few hundred yards without getting back ache and having to stop for a lean on something, so the answer is no i didnt used to walk a lot at all!
Today we took the dog for about 90% of the way round, then put him in the car (with plenty of drinking water i might add) while we went into a cafe for lunch (warm chicken bacon salad with a poached egg on top yummy yummy yummy!). Then after lunch we climbed to the top of clitheroe castle and finally walked the last mile without the dog, . Feet aren't half aching now though, i dont think they like having my 25 stone bearing down on them all that much!

todays walk is going to be a stinker, not only the first of the 10 milers but also its probably going to be the hardest one.
First five miles are all downhill, then lunch and turn round, (ok so far!) but then the last five miles is going to be all uphill!0 -
Morning all
Had a busy weekend, sorry been awol!
Just done my davina Dvd and came here to tell you (esp alliwant who keeps asking, where is she??!)
sticking to SW this week, want to get myself back to a good place (like those damn jeans!!)I have a question. Diet pills...what do you think?
Comments and opinions welcome.
For the most part i think they are a Placebo effect, I dont think they actually do much (like eric said, very weak concoctions) but i think if you spend money on them and take them every day it encourages you to 'stick with it' and eat more healthily in general.
Personally I wouldn't go there - I had a friend who took herbal diet pills and she kept telling me they work if you exercise and have a healthy diet, and so I was like 'well why pay for a pill then?? just do the healthy diet bit anyway!' Lol.
But hey whatever keeps us on the wagon, and if they are herbal and over the counter then they prob wont do you much harm.
thanks for resetting me FredBetty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....
