Thanks for the kind words, alliwantistosave.
Been thinking about where I am now and where to put the starting weight. Well, I started seriously on this weight loss game when I signed up to https://www.weightlossresources.co.uk on 4th May 2009. I weighed 79.8 kg that day. Nearly 2 years ago now, but we'll be away on holiday on 4th May this year. Well, the line hovered up, down, up, down, I got disheartened, it was slow, but basically I kept going (more or less) until now. This morning I weigh 71.6 kg, 11 st 3 1/4 lbs.
Or you could put the start date down as 26th October 2010 when I weighed 74.8 kg.
In any case, I've lost 3.2 kg since October, and a total of 8.2 kg since 4th May 2009.
What I've learned is to completely disbelieve all those nay-sayers and Job's comforters who say 'oh you can't lose weight as you get older, you're stuck with it'. To have realised what I don't need and what I DO need. As you get older and inevitably less active, your immune system needs extra help and you don't need the 'fuel' of earlier years, hours and hours running up and down a ward, walking to work, running around after toddlers etc. Your immune system needs quality rather than quantity. I don't need anything with white i.e. highly refined flour and sugar. I don't need artificial fats. I eat wholemeal granary bread rather than cheap white bread, don't eat cakes, biscuits, pies. I don't eat crisps, take-aways, ready meals, kebabs etc. I've also discovered that I need protein to start the day so breakfast is usually egg in some form or other - this morning we had a boiled egg with wholemeal toast. So, all the highly-advertised breakfast cereals don't get a look-in at this house. I sometimes eat Dorset Cereals fruity flakes with Greek-style yogurt and honey, but that's usually a tea-time snack.
Bit of a laugh. Couple of weeks ago I saw the GP - that was when we decided I could stop taking the statins, and he ordered a complete blood test, which I had last week. I asked him for a referral to a dietician - this was when I was a bit concerned at weight loss being so slooooow. Just got an appointment by post. 15th July. All sorts of questions to be answered, most of which can be answered with 'no' i.e. do you eat cakes and biscuits, do you add sugar to your breakfast cereal, do you drink alcohol, if so how much. 2 months away!!! By then I hope to have lost a fair bit more. I might go anyway and see what they say.

Yep - it's complete bunk - your basal metabolic rate does slow as you get older but it's at an absolutely glacial pace and building lean muscle via weights will counter it. Metabolism simply isn't a fact for most people - it's down to eating right and getting exercise.0 -
Hi all
Well done countrymusicfan and margaretclare on your losses.
sorry about the job cmf
I am looking for a new job at the mo and it is SO depressing and demotivating, there's nothing out there, not the right skills, too far away, wrong hours, etc. So hard finding something that's right for me but I have to get something soon else i'm not going to be able to pay my rent without a little help from OH!
did a lot of walking this weekend but dont want to add it to my marathon total as I want that to be for running only. Had to take a short break from the c25k as my shins were hurting, but hopefully I'll do another run tomorrow.Betty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....

I think older people look better with more weight...personally. Anyone in their 60's its 14 minimum for me.
I may attempt the gym on friday. I walked the furthest i had and my foot was even less able to bend after that. I'm more annoyed now than i was with the crtuches! Still, its getting hotter and that hollister dress i bought is still an inch or two too tight. The mcdonalds i had today probably didn't help!0 -

Day 36 completed of Insanity. Oh man, phase 2 is pure torture. Did Fit test and Max Interval Circuit today. Have to say it was the hardest workout I've ever done. Not sure if it's cos i did the fit test just before I done the workout without any break, but even so, it was so hard, I had to take quite a couple of breaks and was sweating bucket loads by the end. My heart rate was up the roof the entire time. Will post my fit test results tomorrow if I remember. Did better in a couple, the same in about 1, and worse in about 2. Can't complain though as my body has been so sore. Can't wait for tomorrow.0

welcome and good luck :T
the dukan diet has a lot of nonsense in it, but there is good science behind being on a controlled carb / low GI diet0
