    Amazing - well done!

wow guys, just found this thread, i think you're all amazing! i wish i had your will power!

im 5ft 2" and weigh in at 14st 11 :o the minute i think i've gotta lose weight i start eating more :( my weight constantly brings me down but if im honest im to lazy to do the hard work of losing it! i suffer from depression which doesn't help but still no excuse. well done to all of you :T hope i can find the mind set to do the same soon!!!

I don't have that much to lose but at the end of Feb I found out that I had put on over half a stone since the beginning of December, and I was about a stone over my ideal weight. Factor in a back injury that was stopping me exercising and the result was a very unhappy bunny.

I joined Weight Watchers as I knew I could not exercise, and the weight has slowly been dropping off. The first few weeks I needed more support so I spent time on the Weight Watchers forum on the weight watchers website and also found this thread. I hit a really low point about two weeks in where I was having scary thoughts and was contemplating seeing the doctor for professional help.

This week I started exercising again and am in the process of dragging myself out of this bout of depression. It is not always as easy as it has been this time and I have had my fair share of visits to the doctor to help me get back on to some kind of equilibrium but I have found that the support for weight loss is on this thread and on the WW site, and going to meetings and being weighed. Help with my mental state was found by sharing with close friends, and exercising - doing something for me.

Anyway, there is no better time to start than now. After the first few weeks it will become easier. Spend some time doing something to improve things for YOU - go for a walk in the sunshine, make sure you eat your 5-a-day, something small and achievable. If you manage to do one thing like that a day, every day, bigger things become easier to consider... like joining a slimming club (if that is something you would like to do), or getting out on a bicycle for a ride or starting the C25K program.

Good luck, sorry for the essay. Please keep posting and let us know how you are doing.

I am doing the Marathon challenge slightly differently. As I don't really have extra time to walk or run or cross-train just for exercise, I have decided to measure all the walking I do as part of getting where I need to go. I remember on the BL they talk about incidental exercise being great ie exercise you do as part of your everyday life. So, since 1st April (just 6 days) I have mapped that I have walked 8.65 miles, cycled 1.9 miles and swam 1.3 miles. I am happy to just use the 8.65 miles for the chart though. I can't believe it is that much without even trying - an eye-opener!. Can I move over to the full marathon rather than the half marathon for the challenge please Fred.

    Hi BettyB

I have just looked at 'map my run' and under options you can change the measurements to miles.

Cool, never noticed that - will make it much easier to log my progress on here for fred's chart!

thanks for the charts fred :) I will log my distances in miles in the future to make it simpler.

I think 3.5k is about 2.2 miles so that's my progress so far

Hope the sun stays out so I can run again tomorrow

Just been to see the GP this morning. 'How can I help you?' 'Well, 2 things really...'

I explained about the slow weight loss and asked to be referred to a dietician, someone who really knows what they're talking about. A few clicks on the computer, he's referring me and I'll get a letter through the post. Brilliant. Don't know when, though. Will just keep plodding along as I am until.

Second thing: Please look at the medications that I'm on and tell me if any of them has hair-loss as a side-effect. Yes. Statins. I was prescribed simvastatin which apparently is known to cause hair loss. I told him I don't want to take it. Fine. A couple more clicks and he knocked it out. Simple as that.

All the statins also mean you can't eat grapefruit. I love grapefruit and would never have agreed to take the darned statins in the first place if I'd known.

I'm going to have a full blood screen next week - should have my cholesterol and everything else checked up on regularly.

I was in and out there in no time at all!

PS: By the way, he asked me if I ever feel depressed. I was a bit surprised, but explained to him that the last time I was depressed was when I was widowed and redundant at the same time (and got little sympathy from the other members of that surgery!) Apparently that's one of their targets. Everyone who goes in there has to be asked if they're feeling depressed. I told him I am not depressed, in fact I'm very happy with everything in my life at the moment. When he mentioned my heart problem, I also explained that that incident was 22 years ago, and my heart hasn't caused me any problems at all in the intervening years.

dead fat was definitely interesting to say the least!
  • Fred - please can you log 1.4 miles for me today. Walked, in 27 minutes. Thank you!!!

Also, my total weight loss is wrong, it should be 6lbs, not 5.5lbs. I think I forgot to post one week in March.
