ok am i doing this all wrong? i am counting cals, should i be concentrating on carbs? arghhhh help. i have been trying to keep my cal intake to below 1500 a day but i think i have a lot of carbs, even tho i dont eat bread or potatoes, i do eat cereal, pasta rice and noodles

so help me please what should i be lowering?

Sorry I didn't mean to confuse you. I'm aiming for around 1400 cals a day (sedentary desk job means I only need about 1820 to maintain), but I find if those 1400 are made up from more carbs I only loose about 3 lbs a month, and I get a lot more swings through the week as well. However if I eat mostly meat and veg I can loose about 8lbs a month, so while it's a more expensive way to eat I'm trying to go back to protein not carbs. It also gives me more energy and a flatter tummy too! I'm still eating cereal (try to go high fibre, but never have the really really sugary stuff) for breakfast on days I'm at work though as its easy and fills me till lunch.

I've decided to start up my food blog again to share the healthy but yummy things that can be made. I used to focus on baking but I'm going to do a lot more general cooking this time around. I'm a bit of a foodie, but I can just as easily get my kicks reading a cookbook or writting the blog as I can actually eating it.

I'm beginning to wonder if I fit in on this thread :rotfl:It's just I'm not doing any form of diet nor watching calories or carbs :rotfl:I simply try to eat healthily but I exercise a lot which also helps.

Maybe I need to be on the exercise thread :j

awww everybody fits on this thread, it is a losing weight thread not a diet thread. like someone else said, be in the two. i think that is probably the best way, eat what you like (within reason) and do more exercise, most of us could do with more exercise i think. i wish i could do all this insanity training you are doing, but well it is.... insane!!!! lol. i only get chance to do 30mins on my fitness coach everyday but slow and steady i will lose the weight eventually :) well i hope so any way. i only just manage to do 2 minutes of jumping jacks and when i did my pulse straight after, she said it looks like that is a high intensity exercise for me!!! 2 minutes of jumping!!! lmao ahhh well i am getting fitter tho as the other 3 times i have tried to do it i havent finished the 2 minutes!

i am thinking of having a go at the 30 day shred and seeing if that is better, i like it when i ache the day after exercising, i think i am definatley doing good then :) might be a little ambitious for me yet tho.

thank you everybody for your reassurance on the carbs vs cals i will have a look at low carb diets and maybe do a little of both :)

This is a thread for ALL different weight loss approaches, but just like some peeps here also post in the specific diet & eating plan threads around MSE, there's one for exercise too if you want to get into more detail about exercise as a whole (i.e. not just the weight loss aspect).

I post all my exercise nitty-gritty 'over there' - personal bests (a rarity for me!), fitness objectives, workout clothes/equipment, techniques, targets, thoughts, feelings. The lose weight thread doesn't need to hear about when I stepped in a cow pat on my latest run or how many times I've been stung, or whether I had to wade in a thigh-deep swamp because I took a wrong turn :P. Weight loss & weight control is sometimes mentioned but it's not the main focus, I come here if I want to discuss weight issues.

I agree with Victory - post in both! :D

It may also be worth remembering that while most eating plans & diets can be attempted by anyone, lots of exercise is unfortunately not an option for some people. It may be that there are people participating in and reading this thread who would love to help control their weight with exercise but cannot.

When I introduced myself on 4th March, 3 weeks ago (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=41713140&postcount=860), I weighed in at 10 stones 5Ibs

    Friday, 11th March - 65.2kg

    Friday, 18th March - 64.5kg

And today, 25th March (drum roll please ) - 63.8kg :j which is a loss of (according to google):
700 grams which is -1pound (I think) :rotfl:

I think I'm exactly 10stones now so 7Ibs to hit my target weight 9.gif If I keep on losing at a pound or two a week, I should be able to hit target in 2 months 9.gif

I think we differ as you are coming at this with a very scientific/biological focus, where as I am looking at it as a behavioural/cognitive issue. I want to re-train myself to use the love I have for food in a positive way - make a really nice meal for dinner, but dont eat all the biscuits!

you post a lot of very useful information about the reason I feel X way when I eat Y food (carb cravings, etc) but to me it's never going to be a viable lifestyle choice to count my carbs every day - so I need to focus on my behaviour, allow everything but in moderation, because that is how people with a healthy attitude to food behave.

i do get where your coming from, i do enjoy food, it is more than just fuel, i love steak or bacon and cheese and onion or some fruit and cream but I am concious of trying to focus on the weight loss

once in maintenance i will be far more liberal and I accept that I will have some retraining to do again but it will be all fun :)

nice results Matryoshka! you're doing so well! :D

Re. the exercise/diet debate - i love that this thread is a bit of both - some ppl are all about food, some all about the exercise, most a mixture of both. I have got some fab advice here about exercise (most recently from alliwant re. the c25k challenge!) so i dont see a problem, nice to have a mixture of things to chat about, see what other people are up to - and in some cases marvel/laugh/amaze at the things they do that you couldn't or wouldn't want to do yourself

whats more important to you, loosing weight or enjoying life, you get to choose this.

totally true, but we know now its a lot more than just enjoying food and being greedy, our brain releases hormones that reward us for eating high carb foods, insulin spiking from eating fast release carbs causes carb cravings, high insulin levels block fat burning and cause fat storage, these are physiological reactions where our body "works against us" but it is far more than just over indulging, your body could well be making you do it.

No, no. Enjoying life is paramount before any other thing. I can have both, and i WILL have both. I'm a size 10/12, so actually, i probably am having both.

I love crap food, i love good food. I love alcohol. Yes i want to lose a little bit of weight, and i will achieve that when i'm back on my feet because i'll just eat a little less of the "bad" stuff and do more exercise. Simple as that, but if i don't, i will hopefully be happy and healthy and that above all is the most important thing.
