You do need a google account as downloads are paired to the account for future access, When I had a HTC hero running eclair it wouldnt let me download without a google account, My partners galaxy s is the same
OP if you don't get any luck here, ask over on XDA developers they blend phones for fun haha
I have a google account but my colleague doesn't and we both have the same phone.
We both seem to be able to download apps, not sure why that should be?0 -
When you are trying to do all this stuff are you connecting the phone to the computer?0

When trying to connect to marketplace, phone is not connected to laptop.
When trying to connect to Kies, I start Kies, make sure Kies is select on phone, got to homepage on phone and the connect via usb. Phone makes a wee bleeping sound, phone starts to charge and nothing else.
I have tried to install drivers through Kies, but that doesn't work either.0 -

ok, basicailly i had the same problem with a rooted galaxy s and so just uninstalled gmail, android amrket, and google srvices framework, and reinstalled them, it worked. However my sister is still on 2.1 on her galaxy has the same problem, she has been advised by t-mobile to do a factory reset and see if that works, as the phone might be faulty if it still doesnt connect over wifi or 3g0

Thanks for this. I was fearing that I would need to do a factory restore, can I do this via the phone or does it need to be connect to Kies? As I also can't connect to Kies.
I will do the factory reset (if possible), if that don't work then I will take it back to the Shop.
I don't have a reply on the XDA forums either.0 -
