Android Market Place Help!
Got my daughter a Samsung Galaxy S for Christmas, when she tries to open up market place do download apps, it asks for a username and password. She already has one, that she uses on google but is not a gmail account and this won't work.
I have just signed her up to a gmail account and it's still coming up with the same error:
You don't have a network connection.
This could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services. Please try again when connected to a mobile network, or connect to a wi-fi network. If the problem continues, call customer care.
There is then a box that say say connect to wi-fi.
The phone comes with a data download inclusive and at the moment it's connected to the home wi-fi network.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
(Apologies for the duplicate post, I have also posted this in the Tech section).

Yeah, deffo have internet connection, I have just tried to install keis on my laptop (Windows 7), and can't get the phone to be recognised at is it says drivers won't install.0

I have now tried on two different laptops, one vista and one 7, and the phone is not being recognised at all. Can't get it to connect to either of the laptops or keis. The wire is working as the phone is being charged by the usb lead.
I'm stumped,0 -
You have to go into some menu on the phone & select "Kies usb" (or something like that) as the conection , have you done that ?0
-
Menu -> Settings -> USB -> Samsung Kies to make Kies understand it.
However you say your daughter has a Google apps account (3rd party email on google) so she entered that when it asked for a google account? If so, Android market will go all hissy
So set your phone to use the native google account (@gmail or @googlemail) by going to
Menu -> Settings -> Accounts and Sync -> Add account (if you can't see an account with a G on the left handside) or if you do, delete it then add the native google one.
Its a good phone otherwise aint it! If you need it unlocking PM me as I know how to do them for free!!
PS, don't use Kies unless absolutely needed, on the USB menu change it to USB mass storage and then you can just drag and drop!0 -

Yes, I have.
I have also selected mass storage and pc suite and tried going in through my computer, but still nothing.
I can pick it up on bluetooth, although I can't see any files.Menu -> Settings -> USB -> Samsung Kies to make Kies understand it.

1. See above.
2. My daughter is out at the minute, so I will try it and post back when she gets in.
Thanks for all your help so far!0 -

Right my daughter has just come home. Done what you said above and it's still not working.
The only thing she has in the accounts page is her facebook account.
I went add account and clicked on google. Input username and password. It then comes up saying phone needs to communicate with google servers to set up account.
However it doesn't work and the same error as in post one appears:You don't have a network connection.

I definitely have a network connection.0 -
Who is your network provider? is it post pay or pre pay?
Are you connecting to the internet via wifi or over the HSDPA/3G/GPRS/EDGE network?
and as for the unlocking as long as it runs android then yes it should work0 -
You don't need any user name or password to access and download free apps from the android market.
Can you access the internet from the phone normally?0
