Did you take off all the bloatware? Such as the Norton and mcAfee trials etc? Those tend to slow the machine down a lot. I don't think it's Win 7 that's the problem tbh.
For what it's worth, if you have the same hard disk in your blue one as is in my blue one, it's marginally faster than the red.Herman - MP for all!0 -

updating to windows 7 is the way to go, the reason being is that it can utilize all the memory that you put in it , if you upgrade this netbook to 2gb it will use , where as if you where using xp it would not , also when surfing the internet , use google chrome instead of ie , it is so much faster. the andriod side of the machine is also really fast now i`ve upgraded , just need to figure out how to install chrome on that also , i have also noticed on other threads thats people are ordering the ram from crucial , but from what i can see they are sending the pc2 5300 out , the ram that came out of my machine is pc2 6400 , basically the 5300 is slower ram , i dont know how it would affect the performance of the machine but if nothing else it is the principle , their not selling the best item for the job , just one that would do the job. More memory allows your machine to run more efficiently. It enables the processor to work better and deal with more things at once. Although techically it wont run any faster, it will seem faster in practice since it's not having to constantly read and write to the hard disk.
Imagine an octopus with 3 arms juggling 3 balls. It will do that fine until you start to give it an extra ball or two, then it will struggle to keep them up in the air. Give it another 3 arms to work with and it will happle juggle away with no problems.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Just sent an email through the Tesco direct 'contact us' box, fingers crossed! For my child to surf the net, do a good bit of homework etc, do you think she will need the extra memory? It won't be used as the families main computer and I don't really know about these things.Total debt £20,000 Northern Rock loan:eek:

Script to get a £30 Refund!
1. Phone 01992 63222, ask to be transferred to Tesco Direct
2. Select option 4.
3. Give order number
4. something like "I have bought an acer aspire netbook, used it for a few days, and have bought and installed additional software. I thought it was running a bit slow, so checked the processor type through control panel, and have found that it has a slower processor than advertised on your website". Allow operator to reply, in my case, an apology and the magic words- *goodwill gesture payment*
5. "well, I've been speaking with friends who bought the same netbook, and it turns out they received £30"
Et voila, £30 back on my card within 5 days. :j
In case you were wondering, the thing about buying software was to show that you have used it, AND invested money it, and therefore won't be returning it. Worked for me anyway. Thanks to everyone who posted here and helped us all save a few ££!:D
Thank you - just got £15 refunded. I said that my daughter said it'd cost between £25 and £30 to upgrade he said that's the best he could do - if I wasn't happy then return it. I'm happy with it regardless and £15 back is fine. While he was looking into it he said that he thinks there's been a memo about this problem.0 -

It should run better as programs can utilize the extra ram
Its easy to fit unscrew the flap and unclip the flap, two clips either side of ram, pull ram out try and not touch the ram chips, place new ram in, it only goes in one way and then fasten clips and screw the flap back on.As a non techie, what does this extra ram do, make it faster and do you really need it if you are only going to be using the netbook for basic surfing?
