I hadn't realised tesco direct worked this late so i phoned and got a very helpful bloke, Steve, who offered me £15 but I said it would cost me £25 to upgrade the memory...didn't want to be too pushy...so he offered me £25! Result!

I know Steve from Tesco, and he'sALWAYS very helpful, dishes out £25 credits like billyo, gets him into trouble sometimes but the punters luvim

    Nothing to see here
  • :jWell done to Tesco on this one.:j

I was initially offered £20 but I told them I knew others had received £30 as this would be the cost to upgrade to equivalent and I have now received an email saying they have been informed to refund £30 to all customers.
Not sure if those that have already accepted less will get the difference but maybe worth a phone call?!
  • 99p stores do a neoprene 13" case [in a variety of colours] that fits this acer perfectly
  • I recently visited a Tesco store (2/2/11) in Wigan with banners up everywhere advertising 20% off all laptops.I spotted a great offer on a Toshiba down to £359 ish from £450 and as the sale was advertised to be on between 01/02/2011 and 08/02/2011. I went home to see if I could afford it. Next day ,the 3/2/11 still within the sale period I went back to Tesco to buy the laptop only to be told they had ended the sale early and the Toshiba was now back on display at the higher £450 price again !!!!!! What a con, I went to customer services and was told the decision was " a corporate decision" and nothing could be done. I know it wont matter one iota but I really will not step foot in a Tesco store again.

I want to say a big thank you to all the people on here who have been so helpful. I now have a nifty little netbook to take on holiday instead of my hefty laptop, for, as someone so cleverly put it, less than the cost of my kindle. Now I just need to know how to get my email up and running!

Can you all just humour me for a minute and check which hard disk you have please? More for curiosity than anything else. I'm wondering if all the red have one brand and the blue another or it it was more random than that.

Check by going to device manager. (control panel > system > device manager (top left of menu choices)> then click on the little arrow at the side of disk drives.)

    My ones have:

    Red - Toshiba MK1655GSX
    Blue - WDC WD1600BEVT-22ZCT0
Herman - MP for all! :)

I received the blue netbook on Friday and I have to say it is disapoitingly slow. My other laptop which just died has only 512 mb RAM (IBM T30) but it was much faster! I am guessing because it was running Windows XP? I dont see what is the point to install Windows 7 on machines which hardware cannot support it properly, I wish it had XP instead.
Anyhow I called Tesco and I got £20 refund, thanks to people who posted here (I was offerred £15 initially but when I complained it will cost me £25 to add more RAM, she said she can partially refund my shipping cost which brought the total refund to £ 20). I did not argue too much because it is the blue not red version.
I will look now into adding RAM and installing faster browser - is it Safari which is the fastest ?
