The Mediterranean European states are getting nervous though, as the last thing they need on their doorstep is an Islamic Republic of Libya.....
 Interesting times for sure.....
funny you should mention that, just been watching Italian TV, foreign minister Frattini worries about an Islamic Caliphate around Benghazi, and now on Rai 1 there's a talk show and their main worry is "2 million refugees" coming through to Europe via them.
This is why I don't understand why people don't find this issue more compelling.
 1) This involves almost all of the other countries facing the Med that aren't members of the EU: where do people think refugees will go? Sub-Saharan Africa? There are 80 million Egyptians alone. That's probably equivalent to most of the population that lived between the old EEC and Russia in one single country.
 2) There is a chance this will spread to more oil producing nations, which will cause major, possibly even calamitous resource issues.
 3) Squeezed between Al Qaeda and pirates, there is a strong possibility of future closure of the Suez Canal, causing huge trade and logistical issues.
 4) We should be questioning our government(s) as to why they have so readily sold weapons to despots to use on their people.
 5) We don't yet know how "friendly" new regimes will be to the other side of the Med, which could have all sorts of geo-political ramifications.
Still, if people wish to continue to think these are dusty places with strange names a long way from here, more fool them. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Why? We already know the answer.....5) We don't yet know how "friendly" new regimes will be to the other side of the Med, which could have all sorts of geo-political ramifications.

At the moment we don't even know which devil!
It's a weird old time though. I just watched Kelvin McKenzie doing the Press Preview on Sky. He said that Foreign Affairs doesn't sell newspapers. Maybe there really is a whole bunch of people out there that would rather just discuss house prices after all;).Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Yes, it's weird.
The most frustrating thing about posting here is how simplistic so many people can be.
Very UK-centric, without any appreciation of how ignorant (in the literal, rather than the insulting, meaning) that makes them.
No concept at all of the interconnectedness of things or the big picture.... And thus eternally surprised and peeved when things don't turn out how they expected.
I've started referring to this as "Botoxface".... That look of permanently surprised indignation that only the truly ignorant can pull off.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Oh cr&p! I knew he was doing a tour of the region, not that it was with BAE. That's just plain ridiculous. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? He now looks more like a Spitting Image puppet than his original Spitting Image puppet. He'd be a laughing stock if he wasn't so dangerous and evil. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Thats funny coming from you. You look at the big picture of massive debt, credit contraction, rinsing inflation, rising unemployment and you think houses are going to go up. What happened in the US Ireland Spain can't happen here eh?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
