yeah the desire is way better than the wildfire, better screen, more powerful, able to use flash in the web browser.

as for the wildfire it is a pretty low spec phone for it's high price, the orange san francisco (also android) is a much much better phone than the wildfire, esp the bigger screen res, and it is better than the wildfire in all other respects (camera aside which is rubbish on both) the orange SF is also thiner, has a free unlock, and is cheaper, it has android 2.1 but you can install custom ROMs and bring it up to 2.2 if you want.
  • Can I ask a question here? The Desire and Wildfire are obviously aimed at two different markets. Wildfire low price end, Desire High Price.

However what is the attraction of the Wildfire over say other Android phones at the same price range which are of an equivalent spec and at times cheaper?

nothing the HTC wildfire is a blatant rip off when you compare it to phones such as the orange SF, one major reason is that it has a much lower res screen, which you will easily notice as soon as you see the phone as everything is pixelated.

you are basically paying for the HTC brand and nothing else.

Has the ownership of Phones4u changed recently? I ask because I've just walked out of one of their shops after waiting to be served and being ignored for five minutes. The only other time I've vere been in there to buy a phone, they were all over me like a rash. What put the tin lid on was when a group of three young guys wearing sunglasses ambled in and three salesmen approached them straight away whiole me and my sister were standing there like two lemons.

Unfortunately, the 3 store was closed due to flooding so I've come back with my money intact.

Hm. I've called several London branches of Phones4u looking for the £129 Wildfire and none of them has stock. Bah!

    What a performance!

Just spent 45 mins in the 3 shop buying a Wildfire and a SIM on a one month contract. The guy said I'd bought the last one. Get back to my office, all, excited to plug it in and charge it and when I open the box, there's no charger!

Call the shop, am told to bring it back and they'll change it for a new boxed one, but they won't have more stock until later on this afternoon. "What if you don't get any?" says I, "Oh, I'll walk down to the other 3 shop on Oxford Street and get you one."

Gah! Should I have checked the box before leaving the store? It wasn't sealed when I got back to the office, so it could be faulty. I was tempted just to charge it using my BlackBerry charger, but decided it's probably best to get a brand new one.

nope the desire runs the android platform, same as the wildfire! essentially its a better version of the wildfire it was released last march/april

Interesting but whilst I'm prepared to accept the wildfire is slow (is anything THAT urgent) - I still really like it..maybe the Desire can cope with 101 apps but does anyone really need 101 apps? I've got it sorted now for reading e-books so am happy and don't have loads of music on my phone though like the radio....So yeah..happy...it has the basics..most of my apps are not the most complicated pieces of code anyways...

Actually you could have probably found one at home....The wildfire takes a basic mini usb charger which separates from the plug...so like it probably would work with the blackberry charger..I'd keep the BB charger for sos....love the length of the cable though with the plug :)

    I'm looking at buying a car. what's better, a 10K lada, or a 40K bmw.
Oh wait? wrong forum? What about comparing some apples with some pears, can anyone do that?
How about comparing two phones that are similarly priced, rather than one thats twice the price of the other? What? the expensive one is better? get out!

I was more concerned that as the box had been opened there might be something wrong with it. As it turned out, they changed it for a brand new sealed in the box one, so I'm happy.

  • It will come down to what you want from the phone. I have the Desire HD and i have to say it is very very good. Quick, nice screen and makes web browsing and docs easy for a phone.
